Encouraging and positive book about aging
I enjoyed this book very much. It was nice to read, I learned about aging and about Dick Van Dyke's life and aging process which I much appreciated. I love how positive he is which stands out as the likely reason he's lived so long and healthily. The book is entertaining and I enjoyed it. I recently saw in the news that his brother had died, who he wrote about being so close to. I'm sorry to hear of his brothers death and hope he stays positive and healthy. I only wish to be as productive and active as he has been as he got older.

A Book of Treats for Any Age!
In addition to purchasing a copy to use as a 39AndHoldingClub.com giveaway (soon), I bought another copy for myself at a local aging summit, at which Dick Van Dyke appeared - for his signature, of course! He's the real deal when it comes to aging with grace. His book is a reflection of him - witty, charming, and full of wisdom.Mr. Van Dyke has a lot of life to talk about - you won't be bored or disappointed. He spoke of his good friend and writer, Bob Palmer, in his last days (2014), recalling their many excursions together over the years, "The food isn't always perfect, sometimes you get lost, sometimes it rains ... but it's all okay. As Arlene [Dick's wife] and I concluded, that's life. Despite the bumps and wrong turns, enjoy the ride."My favorite chapter is "Other Tips and Truths About Old Age" (pg. 143). "TRUTH: After a hundred, everything should be free. It's not - but it should be." And ... "TIP: Look your age. But don't act it." :-)

You Might Just Find Yourself Enjoying Each Day More After Reading This
Let me start by saying you don't have to be in the sunset years to appreciate, enjoy, or be inspired by this book. I am in my thirties...still, I needed the message of this book. If you struggle with living in the NOW or could use a reminder about what really matters in life, this is an enjoyable way to get a little tune-up. Dick Van Dyke is turning ninety this year (Don't tell him that...he is pioneering the "Gray Rights Movement") and refuses to act his age. His health, spirit, and general outlook on life are like that of a boy...and his zest for living is contagious! This book is his advice on physical fitness, mental acuity, spiritual and emotional well being, dealing with grief, and many other topics. The style is very conversational, as if you're listening to him speak on a televised interview. The positive side is his tone is humble and modest. The negative side is occasionally it rambles (taking a page or two of detour to get his point across), but even when it does, it remains interesting and fun. If you're like me, and you sometimes feel like you've got one foot already in the grave, this will have you inspired to view life differently. Don't think of this as a self-help book. Think of it as a wise and loveable grandfather passing along pearls of wisdom about the secrets of a long, healthy, enjoyable life.If you're a fan of his work, and did not read his 2012 memoir, I would suggest starting there. This book does re-cover some of that ground (hence, my only reason for giving it four stars, as I felt select anecdotes were a little redundant) but it's definitely different enough to justify buying. His memoir is just that---the story of a Hollywood legend. This book is more practical and helpful for everyday insights to a better life---whether at 90 or any age.

Refreshing read.
This is a very refreshing read. Nearing 100 years of age Dick shared a great deal about his life, career, family and how to understand and approach aging. It's a very inspirational and uplifting approach to life that I greatly enjoyed reading about.

Love him, loved it.
I loved him before, love him more now. I adore how it feels as though he's talking right to you, and his anecdotes are charming. First of all (to the naysayers) he was pushed to write this from his circle. He didn't really want to. I so appreciate a chance to have a piece of his heart before it's too late. If he'd written it 20 years ago, it may have been slightly more of what the others wanted, but considering he's 90, hello? Cut him some slack. It was his experiences, he shot up to fame, fairly early. It isn't exactly "name dropping" when these were his friends! What do you expect? He's from an entirely different generation who still have an innocence about them. Is he perfect? No. Did he make mistakes? Haven't you? I thought this was a great read and I was so bummed when it was over. I'll have to just enjoy the YouTube videos that Arlene puts out here and there. I love the history he speaks of, FIRST HAND, I listened to his favorite songs and didn't they make ME dance around my kitchen too. What a sweet human. Thank you for being born, and I hope you stick around a good long while longer, Sir.

SUPER Advice From Dick Van Dyke...He's a National TREASURE!!!
This book is an absolute DELIGHT! If you want to learn how to stay young-at-heart, who better to learn from than Dick Van Dyke? This book is so much fun...a collection of stories from his life, some of the health challenges he's had to face, and above all, how a youthful attitude can take you a long way. It is full of optimism, but not denial...just some really healthy, down-to-Earth tips that have helped HIM keep a healthy, active life...and that would help all of us. His accessible, conversational way of writing makes you feel like you're sitting with him having a cup of coffee. I enjoyed every word. Touching, optimistic, loving and practical - it just doesn't get any better than this!

Pleasant and easy to read
I needed a break from the heavy/depressing things I was reading. This book is mildly entertaining and generally an optimistic perspective. It's not riveting or anything but it offers a pleasant opportunity to see aging as an adventure instead of a curse. I'm not sure the tactics of randomly joining someone on stage for their recital or marrying someone 46 years younger will work for everyone. Also I was literally reading it to escape the nonsense of our world right now and he just NEEDED to throw in some nonsequitor political commentary. But it is an enjoyable enough and easy to read and most of it is a break from all of the negativity in the world. Dick Van Dyke is a little sunshower on a hot day.

An Entertaining and Inspiring Story.
I have always enjoyed Dick Van Dyke's work on tv, in films and I enjoyed this book very much. It felt to me like I was sitting at his breakfast table chatting to him. His voice is so familiar to me I could almost hear it as I read his words. His words on getting older struck a chord with me as I'm now 66 and retired. His attitude to life is enjoy it, be kind to people and wake up with a smile as every day is an adventure. Above all Keep Moving! I know what he means although I don't go to a gym and work out every day like he does. I do, however , walk a lot which is as strenuous as I can manage and that is good for me. He enjoys music as I do and he sings and dances. That is something I'm not able to do but this book is inspirational to me and highly recommended.

How to age not so gracefully and love it...
Mr. Van Dyke has given us a gift of some little known secrets on how to fool the getting older part of our life. He does not have answers for your aching bones, and all the other joys that come as we mature physically. You can either focus on that or hear the music in your soul and dance. His advice is simple but wise. He can show you how to keep a balance in your life if you want to apply it. If you do not want to do a little work and a lot of play then you get to be miserable and not have a smile in your heart. If on the other hand, you find joy in many things, life will be a lot more fun. He admits it is never smooth sailing, but it is still an adventure, whether you are forty or seventy five.If life has not been an adventure so far and just the same old thing, he can point out ways you can take a new approach to your life as how well did the old attitude serve you. If you were around in the 60s and knew how to smell the roses and dance and have forgotten how. He can give you guidance on seeing the beauty in things not the rust. This book is a treasure and we are lucky he has put pen to paper to give us some of his wisdom. This is an invaluable gem that gives values to your life that they can not tax. Hopefully he does a second edition when he is 110.

Nothing wrong and everything right with being 90
A great read. Well written, articulate arguments for the over ninety generation. This is proof that it ain't over unless you give in. An inspiration for those of us approaching ninety and an encouragement to look forward to continued contributing to others and fulfilling our own lives. The end to being a contributing member of society happens only if we let it. Dick's anecdotes and biography confirm that we have much to share with the 30 and 40 year olds on being old and still vibrant and vital. Just because we can not move as quickly as we did in youth has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of our thoughts and insights -- treasures that can only recounted by those who have lived to 80 or 90 plus. As Robert Browning wrote, "Come grow old along with me. The best is yet to be. The last of life for which the first was made."

Dick Van Dyke is a great example of the healthy, active lifestyle he advocates in this book.
Having spent decades in showbiz (films and TV), giving fabulous entertainment to millions, DVD is now in his early 90's and still singing with his acapella group, doing a short 'soft-shoe shuffle' each day, and using Tai Chi to strengthen muscles and stay active. He tells us about his day to day life e.g. strolling to the local village each day to buy a green smoothie for himself and his wife - and exotic holidays on cruise ships, which he tries to make livelier than their stodgy image for 'seniors'. Over the decades he's brought up 4 children and has several grandchildren, many of whom appeared with him in the 'Diagnosis Murder' TV series currently being repeated on UK TV. They seem to be a genuinely close family, and I have never heard or read a bad word about him - rare in this industry. He seems a truly great guy and there's a lot to admire. His advice and tips in this book are worthwhile for anyone who wants to remain as healthy and active as possible, well into their later years. A quick read and very enjoyable, as well as being informative.
