🚀 Elevate Your Sensing Game!
The Yost Labs 3-Space Sensor is an ultra-miniature, high-precision IMU/AHRS designed for real-time applications. Measuring just 23mm x 23mm x 2mm and weighing only 1.3 grams, it offers customizable orientation sensing and multiple output formats, making it ideal for advanced robotics, virtual reality, and stabilization systems.

Precise enough sensor
Sensor is precise enough and easy to use. You will get some software to calibrate and test it.Good sensor with only contra: high price

Horrible quality control and customer service
We are a small robotics team based out of the University of Southern California. We decided that this IMU looked like a good fit for our robot, so we ordered it. The one we got appeared to show correct data in the 3-space control program. However, when we ran the calibration function, it reported that the magnetometer had failed self-test and that we should submit a report on 3-space's website. So, we filed the RMA, and waited. And waited. And waited. After a month with no response, we just gave up and ordered a replacement at full price. Another month went by with no activity on the return request. Finally, despite all official documentation saying to use their website for returns, we gave up and called them in person. Eventually, we were able to negotiate a return, and shipped our unit back.I wish the story ended there, but we kept having issues. The second unit we bought was also dead on arrival. I forget the details but programming team reported that the data from it was too garbled to be useful. The third unit appeared to work, and passed self-tests, but that was only a façade. Once we attempted to actually interface with it in our program, we realized that something funky was going on with its rotation data. Rotating it the same way physically did not always produce the same change in angle data. After weeks of trying to determine some rhyme or reason to it, the programming team threw up their hands and declared defeat. So, in total, out of three of these IMUs that we received, all three had a fatal defect that rendered them unusable. It seems like the hardware quality control on these units is pitiful. Also, Yost Labs's online support is completely nonexistant, and they appear to have zero regard for the satisfaction of their customers. I would recommend avoiding this IMU at all costs; attempting to use it set back our team by months and we have nothing to show for it. We have switched to the NavX IMU by Kaui Labs, and it worked on the first try with zero drama.

Does not work well
I have the 3-space mini bluetoothIt essentially doesn't broadcast data over bluetooth more than a few seconds before signal drops out. And when it does work, the data is intermittent. Basically useless.

3-Space review
I was looking for an IMU which can easily be connected with a mircroprocessor for my project. The sensor worked like a charm out of the box. You can learn how to work with it by simply hooking it up to an USB cable. You can then send ASCII commands via a terminal program or try the software provided by YEI. For fast communication, a byte command API is provided. Currently, I've connected the device with my mbed via UART, but I2C or SPI should work as well. Before trying 3-Space, i also worked with the I2C 6-DOF IMU board from sparkfun. However, I never managed to get both the Accelerometer and GYRO to work at the same time. Until now, I never had an issue with the 3-space. Moreover, it does all the math at up to 200 Hz sampling rate and deliveres Kalman filtered, Euler quaternated or whatever sort of processed data (but also unprocessed raw data, up to 800 Hz).The price is well... OK for a system that is well documented and easily implemented in own projects. Now YEI only need some European distributors...
