The joints are smooth and stronger than the surrounding leather. The belts are manufactured slightly smaller than sanding belts to provide for the natural stretch of leather. They will fit very snug when initially installed. You just apply the buffing compound to the belt before use and polish in an instant. You can finish just about any edged tool with these belts to get outstanding results! This is the 2X72 belt and will fit on any standard belt sander that takes 2X72 belts. There is a rough side and a smooth side which can both be used depending on the application.
