Burying Father Tim

Very little about Father Tim
I imagine others thought "Burying Father Tim" was the final book in the Mitford Series - I did. Should have read the write-up. Most disappointing was how little was mentioned about this priest titled on the cover. I would say 99% of this book was about the main character in the book remembering his past with stuff about going to school, all his friends and what they did, jokes played on each other, games played in the school yard, stores that had closed in the neighborhood, the loss of his father, college time, his wife and how he met her, his children and on and on and on. And unfortunately, most of it was junk stuff - so much so that I skipped many pages - glancing at first sentence of each paragraph and moving on. It is all about the author reliving his past. Often wondered if he chose the name Tim for the priest as that was the same name in the Mitford Series. Waste of money.

Not the Mitford series, but just as delightful!
I’m surprised at the reviewers, who gave Burying Father Tim low reviews for their own mistake of thinking this was part of Jan Karon’s Mitford series about another Fr. Tim. That’s not fair when this book is so well written. If you love the Mitford series, then you will also love Tom Robertson’s book. He has the same knack for creating colorful characters and stories within the story, that allow you to see them clearly in your mind. The main character, Michael, takes us from the present and back to his past growing up in a neighborhood of colorful characters and going to Catholic school. We get to see the timeline of Michael’s life as he remembers incidents from his life and how Fr. Tim helped him to become the husband and father he is when the story begins. You will find yourself laughing out loud, while wondering if these stories have any basis on real life events. Other times you will be crying a few tears at the more poignant moments. It’s reminiscent of John Powers’ “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up.” You’ll enjoy this book!

A really good read, and this from someone who usually fills up on Lee Child, David Baldacci and James Patterson.
So glad I decided to read a book by someone I had never read before. Like reading the diary of a person who had a very interesting and exciting childhood. I especially enjoyed reading and learning about the Catholic schooling. Will no doubt read it again.

A poignant return to childhood in the 50s and 60s
Burying Father TimBurying Father Tim I, like others, first looked at this book thinking it might be a Jan Karon sequel in the beloved Mitford series. Disappointed, I dediced nonetheless to try a "sample" on my Kindle. The sample completely caught me, and as Amazon cleverly deduced, people who BEGIN a book usually end up buying it, the second I came to the end of the sample, I hit "Buy This Book" button and paid a shocking $9.99 for the Kindle edition. (I generally try to spend less than $6.99, as I permit my adult children to buy books on my account too, which we all share.) The $9.99 was money well spent! Not only that, but I am online now to buy the book for my sister-in-law and her husband, my brother, because I believe they, too, will be enchanted by Father Tim and Michael. The book is laugh-out-loud funny and heart-breakingly sentimental, just the way most of our lives are. I truly believe part of the joy of this book is how it is unexpected both in what will happen next and how things will turn out. So I cannot in good conscience write more without it turning into a "spoiler". The few things I will say: it doesn't matter if you are male or female, young, middle-aged, senior or even a child of 12 + yrs, in what beliefs you practice, where you grew up or what your cultural background, you will LOVE THIS BOOK. Cannot recommend it higher! Burying Father Tim

Pleasant Surprise
As another reviewer wrote ordering a Jan Karon book, I thought the same, and was annoyed when an author I'd never heard of came in the mail. To my `great' surprise, `Burying Father Tim' was a wonderful surprise journey for me. A simple read, yet very thought provoking on how one lives his or her life. The trials and tribulations alter boys go through at the age of ten on up, makes one think of their own childhood days. I wasn't an alter boy, but smelled incense, saw holy water blessings, and heard the Latin mass at my neighborhood Catholic Church in the fifties.I fell in love with the authors writing voice, living his growing up years with him. He brought back many memories, especially names given his friends, like Pinhead, Cuckoo, and Joe the Bum, to name a few. I laughed out loud with Father Tim, and tears came at times.I wish the author had other books for me to read. I see he's authored with AuthorHouse, a Self Publishing firm, and know he will go far with his writers voice. I highly recommend `Burying Father Tim' if you want to read an entertaining story.

Great Book!
The title of this book caught my attention because I had been reading Jan Karon's books about the Episcopal priest, Father Tim and I was glad to know she hadn't killed him off, but that this was another Father Tim; a Catholic priest. I clicked on the "Look Inside" and read as much as it would let me read and decided to go ahead and order the book.It was a great decision. This is one of the best books I've ever read. It has its few sad moments, but the greater part is full of humor and quite delightful. I recommend it highly. In fact, I'm going to order a couple more copies to give as Christmas gifts!

Great book, looking for more from this author.
I loved every bit of this book. Hated to turn the final page. For the ones that complained about it being a bait and switch, all that was necessary was to read the description. It is clearly not Jan Karon's Mitford series. I enjoyed this story so much and highly recommend it.

Nostalgia at it's best
I loved this book and loved traveling back in time with the narrator. I like the main person Michael telling the story, he writes honestly and shows his vulnerability whilst growing up. So many fond memories were revived. I loved Father Tim, a gentle soul. Superbly written, nostalgic, funny, sad, everything you need in a good read. The ending left you complete. I will certainly look for more by this author.

Disappointed
Not book I expected. I was following Jan Karon The Mitford series and there was a Father Tim in that story and I thought it was a sequel to that series. My fault for not reading further.
