It's a compressor saver, air tools saver, and back saver!
I recently bought a nice compressor and have started using air tools. It is recommended that the compressor tank be drained daily. The compressor has a valve at it's base to drain the tank of moisture that builds up in the processes of compressing air. It is a pain to use as you have to get on your hands and knees to open and close the valve. I knew I needed to change this situation. I looked at auto drains both air and electric operated. The air one from Harbor Freight seems like a good idea but you need to tap in to the unloader air line and that seemed like a pain. The electric ones are very nice, but expensive. Then I stumbled up this on Amazon and thought I'd give it a try. There was another good review of this valve or a similar one so it was worth a shot. The price is right even if shipping costs as much as the valve. The quality of the valve seems very good and it installed very easily on m compressor. When I need to drain, which I know do open to keep moisture from building up, I just give the cable a tug for a few seconds and I'm good to go.Great addition to any compressor!

Works great! No more laying on the floor cursing the drain screw.
Before this purchasing this item I was a bad compressor owner. I did not drain my tank nearly often enough. When I drained the tank to install this great little device I pulled out an embarrassing amount of rusty brown water. All the oiling in the world will not save your air tools if the tank contains water. My original Craftsman impact driver no longer drives too well. Can't even do its usual job of breaking lug nuts loose. The driver I replaced it with is also ailing. Now, whenever I am in the garage or after the compressor does a refill cycle I give the lanyard a couple of 1 second tugs. I no longer have the excuse of that horrible drain plug. And I feel better about the tools I have and am now planning on getting the best impact driver I've seen for mechanical work - looks like a air ratchet but really does have 180 ft lbs of torque. Easy to use
I have a large air compressor, and opening the valve on the bottom was always a big pain. I purchased and installed the new valve as a replacement. I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to simply pull the attached wire and my compressor drains. I have to keep the valve open until all the air pressure is out of the tank of course, and I made that much easier by hooking the cable around something that will hold it open through this process. No more bending and getting down on my knees (at my age) to reach under the tank and open the old valve. My life has become easier due to this purchase and it works like a charm.

A handy addition to my home compressor
After draining my 10+ year old compressor and seeing how much rusty water came out, I decided a simple to use drain was in order. My installation makes getting under the tank difficult, but with the cable attached, I give it a coupe of tugs each time I use the compressor (3-4 times/month) to help keep the moisture level down. The quality of the valve/cable seem top notch. Installation was straight forward.

For such a simple item , this works great. One hand and 6 seconds and the tank is drained. Took 5 min to install. Should have purchased one years ago. Shipped fast.

Tramec spring valve leaks
Overrated spring loaded valve not what I expected at this price. This drain valve was apparently made to operate by pushing the valve stem into the housing compressing the spring to open. By using the cable to pull the stem sideways doesn't fully open the valve and doesn't always close when released. The local Ace Hardware also suggested that this type of valve has a tendency to leak over time as well due to the valve packing material deteriorating.Instead of using this to replace my unhandy location pump drain valve, I decided to just use a 1/4" steel pipe extension with a brass ball valve on the end. That gives a much better, faster, and leak-proof solution.Returning the defective valve to the seller, Quality Distributing LLC, requires paying the return shipping. I complained but no response from them yet.
