This figurine was created in 1989 by famous Spanish sculptor Fulgencio Garcia who worked with Lladro from the early 50’s to 1994 when he passed away at the age of 79. This sculpture was retired in 2001 and now listed in Lladro History Catalog as collectible item (# 01001610), “The Flight to Egypt”. It depicts a biblical event described in the Gospel of Mathew in which Joseph fled to Egypt with his wife Mary and infant son Jesus after a visit by Magi because they learned that King Herod intended to kill all the infants of that area. This episode is a popular theme of arts in such cycles as the Life of the Virgin, the Life of Christ, etc. This figurine is created from the premium porcelain, hand-painted in exquisite colors of beige, brown blue, pastel/white and has a perfect glossy finish. It is provided with Lladro-fitted mahogany base. The figurine is in excellent condition, since it used to be a permanent fixture of our home since 1990: was never moved to any new location from the time we bought it in Toledo, Spain in 1990.This figurine has no chips, nicks, cracks or any other imperfections.
