Sean wants to be Messi: A children's book about soccer and inspiration. US edition

Lots of words per page
The amount of text on each page was quite a lot for a younger reader. It would have helped if each page were spread out over 2 or 3 pages so it didn't seem so daunting to the reader. This is NOT a book you want to read at bedtime, it will take too long.

OUT OF REACH
Sean is a second grader who is obsessed with soccer, especially one player named Leo Messi. He seems uninterested in finishing his homework or paying attention in school. He is excited to join soccer club to perfect his skill, but upon arrival, he refuses to play. His mother is upset with him. Both parents encourage Sean to overcome his fears of inadequacy and start developing his game skills. One day, a sixth grader bullies him and throws Sean's soccer ball over the fence. One day a player is injured and an opportunity arises for Sean to assist. I am not sure I approve of Sean's mother's response, but Sean learns a valuable lesson about himself and the game.Recommended as a beginning chapter book for new or reluctant readers. The book has a few colorful illustrations to keep the story flowing. Soccer fans will particularly enjoy reading it.

This is a wonderful book for emerging readers
This is a wonderful book for emerging readers. (Almost) everyone has some fears or insecurities. Do we let them rule our lives, or do we try to overcome them in order to achieve our dreams? In this book Sean loves soccer, but is too afraid to try and join a team. He attempts several times, each time retreating because of his fears. Eventually, however, he overcomes his fears and goes on to the field, and scores! This book can serve as an excellent conversation opener for younger children who need examples of others overcoming their fears and doing well. Definitely a worthy addition to my household of 3 boys.

Great Gift. Will buy more!
Sean Wants to Be Messi is an inspiring, relatable story for any young sports fan. It is funny, thoughtful and a great way to open kid friendly discussions on getting frustrated, trying again, work ethic, believing in yourself and having a dream. As parents we are not perfect and I appreciate the reality of the adult characters, the conflicts we face and the fine line between encouraging and allowing a child to be who they are in the moment. Beautiful illustrations and of course the book is a double score for any Messi fan!! Buying another copy for my nephew and all the little soccer fans in our lives, the personalized version, will make for an extra special gift.

Cute story line, some rough aspects
Cute book, but the child in this book acts very spoiled and disrespectful to his parents who don’t seem to be all that engaged in him

Great book for soccer lovers!
We loved reading this book together! This book inspired my son to get back into playing soccer. The book has just the right amount of pictures to keep kids engaged, but plenty of reading to keep their brains busy! I was very impressed with the layout of the book and the way it kept my son reading, when he usually gets distracted half-way through a chapter book. He couldn't wait to find out what happened next, and to read the next book in the series!
