My cheapo walmart mat was at the end of its lifespan. I bought this because I wanted a premium mat that would last and would provide an ample amount of stickiness. This mat has served me well in these past few weeks but I still slip quite a bit. It's worlds better than anything I've ever used in the past. What the consensus is is that I'm not the norm. I sweat far too much to have any mat save me and that's okay. As for the rubber smell, I quite like it. I can't speak for other practitioners near me but it's not as abhorrent like many other reviewers have described it.Update: After 32 1-hour classes, this mat is falling apart. I'm so sad to report that. I had such high hopes but alas this story ends in disappointment. The rubber is coming off in specks and they stick everywhere making a mess. I have not used any abrasive cleansers nor left my mat in extreme weather temperatures. I’m very disappointed with this purchase. I had purchased my first mat directly from Jade, and it didn't to this until after several years of use. That mat lasted for several years before wearing.
