You need to be capable of minor repairs
The balalaika I received had grooves cut so deeply in the nut that the strings were lying on the fretboard making the instrument unplayable. I had to order a nut blank and file a new nut. If you can do basic luthier repairs then it is not a bad little instrument. Of course, I might just have been unlucky and got a bad one: you’re mileage may vary.
