Horror Rules, the Simply Horrible Roleplaying Game

Exactly what I was looking for!
I regularly play Dungeons and Dragons but was looking for something a little different for a Halloween horror game. I went searching for am easy to learn system that would work for a quick one shot session.I found this little gem and took a gamble on it. I was not disappointed! In fact, this is the single best gaming impulse buy I have ever made. Our one shot experiment has turned into regular Horror Rules sessions to go right along with our regular Dungeons and Dragons sessions. I use Horror Rules for every non fantasy rpg game we play (though I am positive it would also work for fantasy). It has exactly the rules lite approach I was looking for to prevent the story telling and role-playing from being hindered by mechanics.I highly recommend this system! It was also nice to discover that the author of this game is also Christian gaming nerd like myself. I already know I would like the guy!

A must buy for quick horror rpg fun
I love how simple the system is. I was primarily looking for a simple game to play short 1 or 2 shot horror adventures between DnD off weeks, and this does that great. The combat flubs, or critical failures, make the game especially interesting and ever changing. I've had one of my characters, a thieving plumber, freak out and attack a masked killer with a big wrench via fight or flight and get horribly hacked to death soon after. (Though his wrench blocked a few machete attacks)I love how many cheap pdfs this game has along with some physical copies. I can now run super hero games or fantasy via an expansion book. There's no level up mechanic, but I'm consideing giving every pc survivor an extra skill point to spend on stuff like sweet talking. They rarely survive, though. Overall this was a great buy. I hope the creator writes more books for this system, especially expands with new settings, classes and skills. Post apocalyptic would be amazing.

Fun and Unique System
Probably the funniest thing. I love the simplicity and the uniqueness. My friends and I got this book and were running a campaign within 45 minutes. Great time for a one shot, maybe even two shot campaign.

Great system
Fantastically fun and fairly easy to pick up system. Everyone always has fun when I run a scenario with it.

A fantastic bargain for a solid game.
Fast, simple, if a little loose mechanically; but nothing is worse than clunky mechanics getting in the way of the role-playing, and this game does the job. This game covers all the bases between funny and downright scary, and anyone who can read and talk can pick it up in short order. Horror Rules also has several expansions that make it a much better game (See Ghosttowns and Gunsmoke!).I've played many systems in my 39-year role-playing experience, and this one is one of the best.

A blast from start to finish, well worth the money.
Up until this game I had never played a pen and paper dice game on a regular basis before so I was a bit leery about giving them a try. Trying to learn a whole new RPG game style is generally intimidating with a lot of in depth things you need to do. I wasn't sure I would enjoy it but my friend talked me into it and I'm glad that he did.Horror Rules is NOT the standard pen and paper dice game, it can be very forgiving for beginners and it is absolutely hilarious. Characters can be created in 10-15 minutes and have a pretty good amount of skills that they can use for variety. This comes in handy due to the high mortality rate so you'll want to make a few of them. The game is in the style of the over the top horror movies, anywhere from an axe-wielding maniac in a butchers apron to a spider/crab creature with an eye stalk or a crazy hobo. You even get bonus points for doing "stupid things" like sticking your head into that dark hole you just heard a strange noise come from. There are multiple play styles for various levels of gaming experience which will help keep the game fresh over time as well as expansion books to change the flavor from modern times to the old west or even superheroes. If you're looking for a well-put together game that doesn't require years of gaming experience and strict rules, or simply a game with your friends to have a good laugh, this is the one for you.

Horror Rules Simply Rules!!
I Picked this game up several years ago read through it and thought man I want to play this! Not until Halloween 2010 did Horror Rules resurface and get the time it deserved from my gaming group.Characters took about 15 minutes to create and we were on our way to solving a most horrible mystery. The rules are simple enough that they do not get in the way yet simulate the horror genre very well. Skill and Combat "flubs" generate humorous results that very well represent the tribulations of normal folks in very abnormal situations. "Grip Checks" simulate the mind's reaction to the fearful, the dreadful, and the just plain gross. Keeping your "Grip" is vital. Peeing your pants is optional! The rule book itself is well written and filled with humor(some even good). The art contained within is ok to good. For those without a clue about running a Horror game /campaign tips and info are included for the the new "Rulekeeper". A short sample adventure "A Walk in the Woods" is also included.Bottom line we had five folks that had never played "Horror Rules" before have an absolute blast on Halloween!

The little bit different Horror RPG
O.k. I havent Plaid it until know but it was fun to read and the sytem Looks like it has potential. It is basically rules light and I believe that it is easy to create charackters and to prepare an Adventure.Basically it Looks like it was created for one shot adventures and this is what I was Looking for.You know if you grew older and don't have the time any more for playing ones a week and preparing complex rpg campains but just meet ones every half a year with your Friends to have a one night rpg evening you will enjoy a System which is easy to prepare but gives alot of oppertuneties. I guess the System has got the potential. Also I assume that it is Little bit too humorous for a Horror game. But I'm sure I will see after playing an evening one shot with it. In generell it is a good book to read and teh Price is quiet o.k.
