Favorite Celtic Fairy Tales (Dover Children's Thrift Classics)

When we see "Fairy Tale" we think of stories for children. This should be named "Myths" or "Legends" because it is definitely for adults . . . not that it is obscene, it is just an adult level reading.

Glad I only paid $3 for this. The stories are ridiculous and boring; they would never hold a child’s attention. The only redeeming quality is the 6 illustrations. Don’t waste your money.

I used these to introduce my students to world mythology.

I love this book... it has a great history

We borrowed this book from the local library and fell in love with it. So happy to have found this for my husband for Christmas. He's been reading the stories nightly to our son who seems to enjoyed the lyrical rhythms of the stories. Great alternative to the usual bedtime stories.

I bought this so I could read good stories to my child instead of the usual books you find. This book is filled with wonderful tales.

It feels churlish to complain about a book that cost £1.99 with next day delivery but here goes....As a collection of stories it's good that tales from the various Celtic nations are brought together. Unfortunately they appear either direct translations into English or were perhaps translated a good while ago. The writing style doesn't flow and uses archaic terms that detract from a youngster understanding what's going on. In some stories characters are referred to inconsistently so initially you think another character has appeared unannounced. So in summary, not terrible but expect a few complaints and a fair of explaining if you're reading to your young child.

Arrived in great condition and stories are short and easy to read so great for bedtime stories or reading with your child or in schools. Buy it if you like mythical tales with moral lessons to learn from.

Has all the favorites though, and the celtic fairy tales, I think, more than any others from around the world are the best.

A good read for those interested in this period and helpful for young children learning about the Celts at school.
