Kivors Rechargeable Windproof Arc Lighter Flameless Electronic Plasma Double Arc Lighter

I don't smoke. I got this as a fun windproof to add to my collection (that I use camping, in emergencies, and ... umm... to look at?). It works - it does create a spark that will light things, and it is rechargeable. Holds a charge, too - I keep it in my car which is often parked in the cold for hours. It still makes a spark even though it has been months since it was charged.That said, I wouldn't rely on this in an emergency. It takes a long time for the spark to actually start something on fire (seconds not minutes, but still longer than an open flame lighter would take). In cold or adverse conditions, it can lose voltage and the spark will suffer. It makes an annoying high-pitched sound. Sparking dense materials (for instance, wood tinder) may not work (at least within the boundaries of my patience). And getting the spark onto what you want lit can be a bit of a pain. For instance, if you want to light a fatstick or the like, I've found it expedient to first light a small piece of paper and then use the paper to light the firestarter. A Zippo, which will light even in very cold conditions where this won't, takes out a step.Fun novelty, not for the bugout bag.

Ordered Wednesday with two day shipping so I could have a cool lighter on the 4th of July.Arrived on time. Looks pretty cool.That's about it for the good news.I light all of 15-20 cigarettes with the thing since Friday, here it is July 4th, and it no longer charges. Ring doesn't even light up anymore, it just suddenly stopped working. I am very disappointed with this lighter, as I paid around $30 with S&HCouldn't even last long enough for the 4th of July gathering.(EDIT): They sent me a new lighter at no charge, or no shipping cost either. If the lighter lasts at least a month (with average usage) then I'll be deleting everything above the edit, and change the rating to 5 stars. If It stops working, I'll leave the rating and review as is. Either way, people will know what to expect when buying the lighter.

I have looked at and used just about all possible lighters. The Arc lighters are the best for all purpose windproof lighters. This one is my favorite. It is very well made and sturdy. It lights cigarettes easily and without fuss or contortions. The two arcs make for a quick light. the lighter lasts me a little less than a week on a charge and it takes 30-45 minutes to recharge. It's not picky about the charger, but some are slower.It does need to be occasionally cleaned around the arcs, due to tar buildup.I am quite happy to recommend this lighter to others.[Update 9/4/2017]Sadly, I must report that the button on the lighter has become unreliable. It now takes some fiddling to get an arc that will light a cigarette. I knocked off two stars for this.When it works it is still the best windproof lighter I have ever used.Of course, YMMV,,,

It certainly works as advertised. But the best thing, is the build quality. I bought two for gifts but just ordered one for myself. Neither my two gift recipients, or myself smoke but we will find a myriad of uses for it. I am always searching for a match or lighter to trim a nylon rope, or plastic twine. I just love it.

I loved this until yesterday... The lid broke off at the hinge when I tried to open it. I've only had it about 2 weeks. Amazon is accepting a return on it so all good I guess.-- Update 4/25/2017 --Kivor replaced the faulty lighter. They were lightning fast about replacing it. So far it is working really great and the other one was probably a fluke. I'll update this again in the next few months once with how well it is working.-- Update 5/5/2017 --Just finished the second charge. It takes about an hour and a half to fully charge but lasts a full week. On the first charge the red LED kept turning off every 15 minutes or so. Reseating it resolved it for another 15 minutes. This time the LED stayed on for the whole charge. So it was probably the cable I was using (not the one Kirvors sent). More to come in the following months.

I love this lighter. It charges to full quickly (1 hour or so) and lasts for at least 3 days for a moderate smoker like myself. The design on the lighter looks a lot more expensive than it actually is and I have gotten plenty of compliments regarding it. I am never going back to a traditional lighter.

Really nice lighter, a lot nicer than I thought it would be. Solid, sturdy, has some good weight (feels like good quality). It gets covered in finger prints, but doesn't really matter to me. I plan to collect a few of these. I will update if I experience any issues.

Three stars because the lighter is good looking and works pretty well. Very narrow lighting area and while it does work well in the wind, the charge doesn't seem to hold very well.
