Deserves to be better known.
I had to get this game from the UK. It's so good, I could hear Hubby laughing out loud as he played it. Nice realistic touches, like the length of time it takes to reload a crossbow.

The best Medieval game ever
this is a top notch game. I am more than happy to say this is the best . The armor is historical and not fantasy. Thanks Guy's.

Great game, except for the violence
This game is an awesome game. My son loves it. I must admit it is very violent and intense. I would reccomend watching your child or limit how long they can play.

A unique multiplayer game, very addictive
The Good: Excellent fight mechanics, well designed maps, all four classes are fun to play as, great graphics and sound, fun modesThe Bad: Not enough content overall, some server instability, not enough classes, controls have a steep learning curveWhile everyone is playing Black Ops II and Battlefield 3 there is a little multiplayer game called Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. This knight-in-shining-armor online only game pits players against each other and lets them have at it with deadly swords, crossbows, flaming pots, shields, and various other Camelot era weapons. This is a different multiplayer game and will keep you hooked for dozens of hours. There's no story here at all so don't worry about that, this game doesn't need a story. You open up the game and you are greeted with a server list. There's a tutorial that shows you the ropes of this game. There's a bit more to it than just swinging around weapons. Each one has range, damage, and speed that you have to think about. In a small arena you probably want a short and fast weapon, while the more open maps you should use a javelin and a giant polearm. There are three basic attacks which are overhead, side to side, and jab swings. You can feint attacks as well to trick your opponent which is a key move you have to learn to master. You block, but you have to time it and you can't just block aimlessly. You have to be looking at the weapon or the block won't really connect. This is really a knight simulator and the game is just so much fun.It doesn't stop there though, there are some projectiles. The bow is great to use and has an arrow cam which helps you adjust your aim. There's also a crossbow but reloading is very slow and you can't see around you when reloading. Larger classes get axes to throw, while smaller ones get knives and daggers. I found a strategy where I'd use up my projectiles and try to get in some kills that way before going in. There are 4 classes, Man-at-Arms, Knight, Vanguard, and Archer. The Vanguard is the biggest class and can kill in just a couple of hits but is extremely slow. He, and the Man-at-Arms, have a charging attack that will devastate anyone in its path. If you use a kite shield with these classes it protects you from rear attacks which is actually how I died the most. I would be battling an enemy and I'd get creamed by two guys coming up from behind that I couldn't see or hear. Some levels have traps in them that you can activate to help your team or whittle down someone's health before going in for the kill. Each class is a lot of fun to play and I found myself constantly switching between them unlike other multiplayer games. I just wish there were more classes. Four isn't all that much, and there aren't enough maps. Torn Banner is putting out free content, but it's been slow coming since release last year. However, I still find myself coming back and playing a few rounds at least once a week, the game is very addictive. The game modes are also lacking. There's just Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All (Deathmatch), Capture the Flag, and Dueling which is 1v1. There are a couple more, but these are typical modes found in other games. One mode that is unique to this game is a siege type mode where you use battering rams, trebuchets, and various other long-range siege weapons to break into the enemy's fortress and take it over. That is probably the most fun. On one map my team was trying to push a battering ram through a small village. We were trying to fight off the other team and it was a constant back and forth. Once we got to the front doors their archers made easy work of the battering team because their moat didn't allow us to surround the team and defend them. We just had to do archer battles or hang back and wait for people to come out.As it stand, Chivalry has proven to be a very popular and well made multiplayer game. The graphics are fantastic and everything looks superb. Hopefully Torn Banner can continue to dole out new content to make players happy and continue playing.

More frustration than fun
I'm surprised to see so many purely positive reviews around the net, so I decided to write my own. The game hovers around the edge of greatness at times, but too many poorly implemented features lead to a experience that is far more frustrating than fun.I played enough of the game to reach rank 19, and unlocked all main weapons for all classes, and most of the secondary weapons. I would estimate maybe 20-25 hours to do that. The combat is very sluggish, which seems implemented to artificially raise the skill-level required to play what would otherwise be a very simplistic game. You will die many, many frustrating deaths along your learning curve to get the hang of things. This is true with a lot of games, but here it is especially frustrating because of the slow pace. You will watch in agony as, in slow motion, the vanguard charging you cuts you down because you thought you had time to draw your bow back for one more shot before switching to your sidearm. Halfway through the 3 seconds it takes to pull back your bowstring you will realize your error, but it's already too late. Not too late to recognize your mistake and try to adapt, but too late to make it through the sluggish animation of canceling your bowstring pullback (1st slow animation), holstering your bow (2nd slow animation), drawing your sidearm (3rd slow animation), then raising a block or attack (4th slow animation.) I would estimate it takes a good 5 seconds to get through all of that, but I'm probably exaggerating... slightly. Some like this type of gameplay because they think it adds an element of realism, but I don't think that's what they were going for with the system (again, i think they wanted to artificially raise the skill requirement.) If realism was the goal, then they used very selective realism. Running in plate armor costs no stamina, and one of the best tactics vs. archers is to equip a tower shield on your back and "down look" as you run (stare at the ground) so that arrows can't hit you. Also you can just run in unpredictable patterns, and all but the best of the best will miss you 90% of the time because archery is very difficult. If they do hit you, a 1-shot kill is rare - even a headshot sometimes just knocks off their helmet, then they continue their charge to cut you down in one swipe before you can set another arrow or pull out a melee. The advantage of the archer - range - is not much of an advantage because it is very difficult to hit from long range unless the target is stationary because you have to both lead them and arc your shot, and in medium range you rarely have time to fire more than one arrow before they are upon you (again, that arrow, even if it hits, probably won't kill them.) Plus, most people specifically target archers because they are so easy to kill (light armor, but only "medium" speed for some reason.)If you try to stand back and shoot from far away, most players will just ignore you because it is so difficult for you to hit them. No matter how careful you are you will miss most shots because a tree, a shield, or a teammate will block your arrow.I guess another big issue I have is how unbalanced the classes are. Archers and Man-at-Arms are drastically inferior to what all the pros seem to play: a vanguard with a big sword, or a knight with a big sword. I think the big swords are the best weapons because of their combination of reach and power, and the hit detection is so wonky that those two stats are much more important than speed. You will die a lot of frustrating deaths watching your weapon very obviously stab the other player, but the hit wont register for one of many reasons and then they will cut you down with their big sword. I've never come close to my top scores as vanguard with any of the other classes. I've played well with them occasionally and had a good kill/death ration, but never came close to how well I do with vanguard even when having an average match. Vanguards seem to be the best by far.In fact, you could probably avoid a lot of frustration if you just start as a vanguard, get good at one-v-one playing duels, and never try any of the other classes or attempt to unlock any weapons other than the greatswords. Master vanguard with a big sword, and you master the game. The hit detection system feels randomized, like there is a dice roll or something from DnD to determine if you hit the enemy player or if you block or what. The pros will just tell you you're not blocking right, and that you have to aim your block, but then you will literally see a weapon phase through your shield to kill you (you will actually see the lines of motion from their swing go through your shield) and you will suspect something is wrong. Then you will notice the pros never seem to block - they only parry and feint - and you will suspect something is up again. Then you will charge madly behind an enemy spamming your longest "reach" attack and wonder why they aren't getting wounded, and then they will notice and turn around and chop you in half with their big sword. Then you will switch to a vanguard with a big sword and cut down other people foolish enough to play anything else. It's a vicious cycle, but not a fun cycle. Something is up with either the "reach" mechanic or the hitbox mechanic or something. I gave up trying to unlock javelins because you can't drop the shield that comes with them, and it seems like the only thing it blocks is your vision. There must be reason non of the top players ever seem to be using shields (unless on their backs to protect from arrows), and I think it's because they've figured out there is something wrong with them too.The last thing I'll mention is the strange bugs. Weird things happen, like your teammates will randomly spawn with the wrong-colored shield on their back (making them hard to distinguish from enemies at times), you will get stuck on walls and terrain with no way to release other than waiting for someone to kill you, and weird things like the game congratulating you for just completing an objective (which extends time), then telling you you lost and now the game is over a few seconds later, or hearing the clanging sound of a successful block, then the game changing its mind a half second later and deciding the attack did actually hit you. Had that happen several times.About a 1000 coats of polish might fix this game and make it a 4-5 star release. I suspect, as is the current trend, the game as is is a "paid beta" type of deal.

Locked up my computer staying open when I had shut it down. Buggy, bad graphics, bad game. Dont believe the hype.
Graphics are crap, movement like a stick figure and the game stayed open locking up my computer after closing it. I made the mistake of buying this based on the new steam biased lies called "reviews" where they stack all the old "recommended" games into the system, and put positive reviews on top of everything. The metascore was a great way to instantly see if a game was good, now they are phasing it out because it killed business. Steam has no integrity and promotes false advertising through reviews. No servers for playing at ALL!! This game is complete garbage, so go ahead and waste your money if you want. You've been warned.
