I think it's good...
As one other reviewer mentioned, you need to be strong to use this thing (the masher). It has quite a strong spring inside it. I can use it, but my petite wife with her little arms has a more difficult time. It works well, but one other thing that is a big turn-off is the volume. It IS LOUD. Metal-on-metal scraping noise, which has a similar effect on my wife and I as nails on a chalkboard. I will probably not use it much. The peeler (which we weren't really trying to buy), seems to be of high quality, though I think we still need to figure out how to use it (it's more than just a peeler).EDIT: It has quieted down considerably, and the spring is not as strong as I first said. wash it in the dishwasher, live with it a bit. All around, a good masher.

Great Just Great
A wonderful well priced tool for my kitchen, here are my thoughts:Before I go any further I have to warn you, the peeler is incredibly sharp. I cut myself pretty good my first time using it BUT I love that it's sharp. It glides through veggies like butter, I have never used a peeler that did its job so so well. Be careful with it and your love it! Oh and I love the different sized holes on the side for digging pits (if that's what they are called?) out of potatoes. They work great! The masher is great as well! It has a ricer on top of the masher which can keep your mashed potatoes from getting gluey. The build quality on everything is astonishing considering the price. This is honestly something I would expect at Willams Sonoma for 4 times the price. If you need an upgrade like me go for this, you won't regret it!!

Peeler and Masher are totally worth the investment
Fantastic! These arrived just before Thanksgiving and our mashed potatoes for 20+ people was a breeze! I had four different peelers that were totally frustrating for different reasons but once I used this peeler, this is the only one in the drawer. Both, that has a wider and fantastic serrated cutting blade, it made the job of peeling many potatoes painless. Seriously, a great peeler. Combined with this Masher/Ricer, it transformed the making of our potatoes. It is a nice thick handle that fits great in your grip and is very solid, nothing flimsy about it. I can attest to being able to mash 42 potatoes in less than 15 mashes! Not worth getting the electric beater and better potatoes...no more gooey, sticky mashed potatoes. Love both of these and HIGHLY recommend.

The company was great in the customer service department
I just received this item this week, and have not used it yet. It will not be used very frequently, so I didn't want to wait to post what I could say about it. The company was great in the customer service department, wanting to resolve any issues or problems before they even arose. Which there weren't any. The item appears to be very well constructed, and looks like it will stand up to lots of use. The only mechanism to fail, really, is the spring inside the handle, so that will remain to be seen, but what can go wrong with a spring? The additional vegetable peeler that came with it as a bonus also looks very well constructed. All in all, although a little pricey, they appear to be items of high quality and therefore potentially long lasting. I always thinks it's worthy paying a little more to get quality. I may post another update once I use the masher.

The free peeler was a sweet bonus, but I have not used it yet ...
I was getting sick of the cheap mashers that had some kind of coating (non stick?) that eventually would chip and peel off, and then scratch my pans. I am also sick of lumpy mashed potatoes as well! So off to Amazon I went to find me a masher that I could replace my old masher with and I came across this beauty. It's not the kind I am used to, and it looks kinda weird. Two mashers in one, heavy stainless steel which should last longer than I will. I used it for the first time tonight and I am NOT impressed! If you are disabled and have diminishing arm power, this metallic beast is a pain in the butt to use! You do need power, and leverage to get this thing to not only mash the potatoes, but to make sure the second plate goes through them as well. Now I did read the reviews before I bought this, and I see that MOST of them are all from those that got it for free or at a discount! Are you serious!? The free peeler was a sweet bonus, but I have not used it yet because I have never seen one like it, and frankly it kinda scares me. I am used to a no bells and whistles peeler so I need to learn how to use this one!Back to the masher, the most important part! To be quiet honest I found it difficult to use with ease! I need me a body builder up in here to have the strength to get it through the potatoes! I mean I only made 6 potatoes and I did have a hard time getting the masher through them effectively, and it still left lumps! Some other reviewer said they worked it through 42 potatoes in less than 15 mashes!? I am not buying that story, cause I beat the hell out of 6 potatoes and still had lumps!! I sure miss my antique mallet masher! I know how to mash taters! Maybe next time I should hulk out!?Another thing I did not like about this masher is how the potatoes stick to it, especially the top plate with the holes. Normally you tap a masher and they fall off. This one I beat on the side of the bowl and they clung to it like crazy! I had to resort to using a rubber scrapper repeatedly to sweep the taters off the damn thing and back into the bowl. They get stuck between the ricer plate and the bar over it so I spent a good deal of time scraping the potatoes off the masher and into the bowl so they could be mashed. In the end I simply am not impressed with this one! It looks nice and shiny in all its stainless steel glory, but the results thus far are lackluster! So for me this product is annoying! IF you have any form of arm weakness, you may find it difficult to use. The extra time spent scraping the potatoes off so you can mash them, because tapping it on the side of the bowl, or pot, to get them off does not work is also frustrating!Disclaimer... I did NOT receive this item for free, or at a discount and this is my honest opinion!Dropping this review down to 1 star now. What I thought was a good, quality product it turning out to be otherwise. My masher now has a high pitched squeak when I use it and the internal workings that are hidden in the handle seem to be loosening up!? I feel this masher will break one day when I am using it so I am NOT pleased at all! Thought I was buying something that would out last me! Now I am forced to find another masher that will not break!

Biggest waste of my money
This is absolutely not something I would buy again! I would much prefer to have two separate mashers than to use this spring loaded thing. It absolutely does not mash correctly, and as one lady mentioned in another review, you do need Hulk muscles to even get the potatos through the ricer to begin with. Biggest waste of my money, and that peeler is awful! Sorry folks... Have to highly suggest passing this one over!!

Pleased with product
Works well. We prefer to leave the skin on our potatoes when mashing them, the double blades handle them well. Really appreciate the free peeler included. Both are well made, perform as promised, and priced well.
