Will the light work if there is other light in the room??

Well, yes and no... I have them placed close to the floor, and during the day, the one closest to the window in the room does not light when passing, but the ones further into the room do. At night, with lights on they always seem to light, but they are partially shaded from lamps on furniture. I don't have a way to measure the strength of illumination, so my best answer is that it depends on the strength of the light source in the area you intend to place them.

You could probably get away with some command strips, like the Velcro ones. That’s what I’ve been using after the sticky part runs out.
