Beyond The Pale

After hearing Jim Gaffigan in snippets on the radio, I wanted to hear more, and having this whole album has added literally hours of enjoyment to my commuting day. I actually laugh out loud even though I'm the only one in the car, AND I have heard it over and over again. He has developed a signature 'inner-voice' that he uses to speak the thoughts of his live audience that you just have to hear to believe. His albums each cover a wide variety of topics, including food, religion, traveling, family, friends, politics, etc. The man has a humorous slant on everything he sees, and uses current, familiar experiences to include almost any listener ready to have a good time. I not only recommend this CD to my friends, I have purchased extra copies as gifts, because life is a whole lot more light hearted when you can see through Jim Gaffigan's eyes, how funny we humans are in this complicated, stressful, busy world. I gave it 5 stars because it is 5 times less expensive than an hour of therapy and 5 times more effective.

I purchased Gaffigan's Doing My Time a few years back and found that not only was it hilarious, but it also withstood many, many repeat listens, a HUGE plus for comedy albums like these. BEYOND THE PALE, although it features some of the same routines (most notably Jim's famous Hoooot Pocket! bit), is still just as delightful. Jim, goofily acerbic as always, spends most of his time talking about cake and religion, but his habit of self-deprecation (part of his bits always include asides by an anonymous audience member) keeps the act from ever sounding too mean. Combine that with his slide whistle delivery (I don't know how else to describe the tone of voice he uses for the punch lines of most of his jokes), and you have a clown that may sport a frown and a white-white face, but which never ceases to amuse.

Love Jim Gaffigan, he is so funny. Yes I'm one of the remaining people who wants a cd to put into my car cd drive to listen to music/comedy.

I met Jim in Saint Peterburg, FL, several years ago, and he is one of the most gentle souls in comedy. His act combines sarcasm with self-deprecation and even a little multiple-personality disorder thrown in for good measure (he constantly reviews his act while he's doing it in the voice of a bewildered audience member) and it is simply hilarious. He's just a big goofy doofus with a genius IQ and the ability to find the humor in just about any situation.If you've never heard Jim, do yourself a favor and buy this CD. It's a gem. Even better, listen for his appearances on Opie and Anthony on XM Radio Channel 202. Unlike some comics that can only work off their material, Jim is funny when he's just having a conversation and his XM appearances are radio gold.

This is the audio CD version of Jim Gaffigan's stand up.While it does miss his facial expressions and antics on stage, it is still extremely hilarious and amusing to listen to his commentary on life and food. His voice impressions come through pretty well also.Overall, a humorous listen.

A funny CD. A must for those long car drives. Beats listening to whiny kids

I listen to this in the car with my 2 tween kids and they just love Jim's comedy. We've purchased all of his CD's to listen to during long road trips.
