## Description

EU-only four CD set containing a total of eight original albums from the Easy Listening/Lounge/Jazz legend. Real Gone Jazz.

Review: Exotica ~ From The "King Of Lounge Music" - Arthur Lyman had played in Martin Denny's band in 1954 to 1957. As the story goes ~ One night Lyman had 'a little to drink', and when they began playing Lyman let out a few bird calls. The audience started answering back with all kinds of weird cries, and bird calls became a trademark of Lyman's sound. When Denny's 1957 hit of "Quite Village ignited a national mania for all things Hawaiian, Lyman left Denny's band to create his own group which was a similar style, but more flamboyant. His for-most trademark is bird calls. Like other Exocita bands, the marimba, tambourine, cowbells, wind chimes, cocktail drums, boobams, conch shells and other exotic instruments are used to spice up arrangements These four C.D.'s contain 8 of Lyman's first 9 albums from 1957 to 1960, with 97 tracks, and over 4 1/2 in length. (His seventh album "Arthur Lyman on Broadway" from 1959 isn't here) During Lyman's heyday he had three songs on the pop chart, the first two are here & their B-sides. 1. Taboo ~ B/W ~ Dahil Sayo 2. Yellow Bird ~ B/W ~ Havah Nagilah The third song "Love For Sale" from 1963 isn't here, as it didn't fall with-in the time period this set covers. Disc One ~ Lyman's first & second albums "Leis Of Jazz" - 1957 -- (quite jazzy) "Taboo" - 1958 -- (classic Taboo) Disc Two ~ Lyman's third & fourth albums. "Hawaiian Sunset" - 1958 -- (beautiful Hawaiian music) "Bwana A" - 1958 -- (traditional Exocita music) Disc Three ~ Lyman's fifth & sixth albums "Legend Of Pele" - 1958 -- (especially spirited) "Bahia" - 1959 -- (traditional Exocita music) Disc Four ~ Lyman's eighth & ninth albums "Taboo 2" - 1959 -- ( excellent, classic Taboo) "Percussion Spectacular" - 1960 -- (many nice songs) Re-issued as "Yellow Bird" With this being all instrumental, and much of this set I've heard here for the first time it's difficult to tell that tracks are correct. I noticed on "Legend Of Pele" the song "Fascination" listed as track 11, is actually located on track 10, which is easy enough to type the correct information in. There's no liner notes, but this collection is a bargain price, and has excellent sound.
Review: Tiki Exotica. This is Arthur Lyman at his best. 8 Classic albums in one bargain priced set. - 8 of Arthur Lyman's best albums in one 4 CD set! The sound of this set is just amazing. Great care was taken in the transfer to insure the full sonic quality of these albums is there. Arthur Lyman produced some of the best Exotica music ever. If you love lounge exotica music I would highly recommend this set. You get only the music and there is not booklet or liner notes but considering you get 8 classic albums for less that $15.00 makes this one of the best deals going. So pull out the tiki gods and find some umbrellas for your drinks and relax and enjoy the music.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SOME GREAT TIKI EXOTICA!
*by D***R on February 3, 2013*

When I first gave Arthur Lyman a listen I din't think it was a rich & exotic as say Martin Denny or Les Baxter but the more I listened to it the more i felt the mood he had created when making these exotic recordings! I really like these series of 8 classic albums and highly recommend them to anyone wanting to get a large collection fast & cheap with good sound quality!
