Q: My bulbs are only slightly out of reach from an upstairs landing. Can I turn the gear in this mechanism with my fingers to be able to replace bulbs?

This is motorized. Nothing to turn with your hand. It only works with the WAGIC 21316 Giraffe Sure Grip Ligh Bulb Changing System

It attaches to the giraffe pole. You have to get the giraffe pole and this as an extension.

Q: i have shades on top of the light bulbs. Will this product allow me to remove the small shades to get to get to the bulbs?

If the shades are just clipped on, you might be able to tip then off with the device but it removes bulbs with suction so it would not be able to suction to a shade.

Yes, the attachment is adjustable. It can be adjusted in any position.
