Jaixai is a great collection!
so awesome to see some stories and publicity for Laos... My daughter LOVES the Jaixai collection. My daughter is 6 and I am a little weary of buying the Lao Folklore storybook because of the ghost stories that I hear are in there. This story as a hint of it with the embedded story near the end of a woman coming nightly to take Jaixai away from her family if her needs are not met each night. but in all, i would not hesitate to buy it for a kid and we read it regularly.

Engaging and educational!
As a parent who loves to read with his children, it is always refreshing to find a book that not only entertains, but also educates. The book does a great job of engaging its readers (young and old) with an enthralling tale of family, love, and tradition. It provides a great opportunity to teach the kids about a far-away culture, and what it means to be an enlightened and respectful global citizen in today's multicultural world. Also, the kids loved the pictures and the whole family enjoyed trying the recipes at the end of the book together. Highly recommended.

Wonderful!
As a person with a long history in foreign service, and having traveled to over 45 African and Asian countries, I found this book to be quite universal. It does take a village to raise a child. We must bear the responsibility of investing in our children, since they are tomorrow's leaders. If we don't take responsibility for our children now, then what will happen to our future? Bravo to the author and illustrator for capturing this simple message of love and diversity.

Inspirational
This beautifully written and illustrated book was truly inspiring! I read this book to my daughter for the first time and it brought tears to my eyes. The book ties in culture, folklore and illustrates the love a small village has for its children. I also love the fact that some of the proceeds go to a charitable cause! Wonderful!
