The TV can not power these speakers. Decide on if you want all speakers to play in a surround sound format, or just play stereo. Then find the amp to power them. Stereo or surround sound amps can run about $100 but could find for less I imagine. **Q: Is this really 6 inches wide? Most similar units are 10 inches wide.** A: It looks like the manufacturer listed measurements are wrong - thanks for catching that. The unit is 8.5" wide, 6" deep (including front dials), and 2.25" tall. **Q: do i need a seperate amplifier hooked up to my stereo in order to use this?** A: Yes, you will need an amplifier to distribute sound to the different zones you want to control. If you already have a stereo (amplifier) that will do the trick nicely. What this unit does (and very well) is to take one signal source and distribute it to different areas and allow you to independently control the volume to each area from this speaker selector. They are well built, the binding posts on the back are solid and the unit performs flawlessly. Each volume control in adjusted in steps so you can match the volumes on more than one by counting the steps. (probably 10 or so positions.)
