How long of a tile is this mortar recommended for?

I have used it succcessfully on 18x24 porcelain shower tile.

How come Platinum White color is much more expensive than other color?

I assume Portland cement is one of the main ingredients in this product. The basic raw materials used in making Portland are naturally grey, so it is easy to make grey Laticrete. The raw materials needed to make white Portland are much more expensive, so white Laticrete will cost more.

Will this bond to the old black residue on plywood subfloor after old laminate/vinyl tile was removed?

Doubtful, but you should contact Laticrete. They have excellent customer service.

When is it necessary to use the white version instead of the cheaper grey?
