I'm used to sleeping on a coil mattress and didn't want a mattress I felt like I was sinking into
I received this bed a few days ago and so far I'm loving it! I researched beds for months, in the big box stores and online. After doing a lot of research I knew I wanted a latex bed. I'm used to sleeping on a coil mattress and didn't want a mattress I felt like I was sinking into, but more sleeping on top of. I tried a big box retailers latex bed in the store that was classified as firm, but it was just a little too firm. I told the Dreamfoam folks that and they recommend I get a #4. It arrived quickly and was pretty easy to setup with my husbands help. The bamboo cover is very soft, but not squishy or sinky feeling at all. There was a slight odor for the first day, but not a chemical smell...but just a natural latex smell. It didn't bother us at all the first night and we are both sensitive to that kind of stuff. The mattress also seems to sleep very cool, which is awesome! The bed is very good quality at an excellent price for total latex.

30 Years Experience w/ Latex Mattresses - Thorough Research
I'm one of those analytical people who reviews things in amazing detail and look at all alternatives. Understanding the composition of a mattress is very difficult, but doable if you invest the time. If you care to learn more, to to a web site called "sleep like the dead" and select "mattress reviews" and then click on "latex mattress reviews". A mattress like this will cost $4,000+ in a store. My wife and I have used latex mattresses for 30 years. Latex mattresses are the best. In addition to the latex mattress in our bedroom, we also have one in our guest room and visitors love it, like we do. This mattress has a latex core. A latex mattress with a foam core (less expensive) is similar in comfort to one with a latex core (this mattress). We have both. A mattress with a latex core lasts a lot longer. That's why we purchased this mattress. For some people, buying the lower priced Dreamfoam bedding latex mattresses with a foam core makes more financial sense. The mattress is very comfortable, and meets my high standards. Dreamfoam Bedding is great to deal with, and responded well to my long list of detail questions. I highly recommend this mattress.

Tailor-made mattress feels good, but take softening into account
UPDATE 4-5-14Flipping the comfort layer over didn't give us as much relief as hoped. However, the company is being great about it and will ship us a replacement comfort layer. It will cost $150 and we'll get $75 back when they receive the used latex back. They are also covering shipping. I'm glad that they are standing behind their product and taking care of us. Not all companies do that. We're going to order something firmer, like a "2". This may feel really firm at first, but I think it's what we need given that we're both heavy people and I have back problems. We don't want to be back to this point in a year, so hopefully any softening will be to a level that still keeps my back well-supported.Since they're taking care of us, I'm moving my rating back up to 4 stars. I still love the bed...just wish it hadn't softened up so much!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE 3-2-14I now have mixed feelings on this mattress. It was really nice for a long time and it can still feel very comfortable. However, we have now rotated it 4 times and it's just not the same as what it was. This is only about a year later. The foam softens up after use, but I didn't expect it to soften up this much. You can't really see the softening (so if one were to measure it, one would not meet the warranty requirement that there be a 2.5 inch difference b/w the high vs low areas). It's not that it's low...it's that the foam has a real difference in softness once you lay on it. There is now a ridge in the middle of the bed where the foam retains its original firmness. On either side, you have the softer foam where our bodies have lain. We had ordered a "4" firmness and now I would guess it would be around a "6".I'm not sure what we'll do about it. One orientation of the mattress makes it still comfortable for me, but my husband is not comfortable. Rotate it and he's happy, but I'm not. We are considering removing the comfort layer all together and sleeping on the firm "2" base layer, opening the mattress up and flipping the comfort layer over, or contacting the company to see how much it would cost to get a replacement comfort layer in a firmer foam (like a "2"). We have not done this yet but may look into it in the future. I'll update my post if I do, so everyone has that info.Everyone should know that the foam softens up more than you might expect. I think we started to notice it about 5 months in (or whatever month was just beyond the "send it back if you don't love it" warranty date). You might want to err on the side of extra firm with the knowledge that it will soften up after a few months. I wish we had done this, but we didn't know it would get like this. I wish I could sleep on the firm ridge in the middle of the bed so that I would get the support for my bad back, but for some reason my husband has a problem with that. ;)Has anyone else who has bought this mattress noticed that it softens up a lot?Changing my review from 5 stars to 3.-------------------Original Post:I love this mattress. We had a 7-year old pillowtop that wasn't cutting it anymore. I was having back pain (very stiff every morning) and my husband and I thought we could be sleeping better. We saw the ad for Dreamfoam Bedding on Amazon's main page one day and thought it was too good to be true.Dreamfoam's other mattresses on here have amazing ratings, so I did some research and ended up learning a TON about mattresses (I recommend looking at the Mattress Underground website to learn about mattresses and what you should be looking for based on your sleep style, weight, etc.). Come to find out, Dreamfoam Bedding (aka Brooklyn Bedding) is a well-respected manufacturer who uses high-quality materials. Great! We decided to order this bed because from what we read, talalay latex is the top of the line and that's what we were looking for (and what a great price!...we wanted to try out latex mattresses in stores to get an idea of the feel and kept being told "we don't have those here, they cost like $3-4000. Let me show you our memory foam... blah blah). We wanted something that would really support us while we sleep, but also be comfortable and last a long time. We also liked that it's a natural material and not chock full of chemicals. Also dust mite resistant! I also thought that memory foam felt really weird and I like the talalay latex better. I didn't like how the memory foam took a while to conform to me and then I had a hard time turning over due to having to fight against my own body-print in the foam. The talalay feels kind of smushy like memory foam, but it doesn't have a memory, so it cushions you right away no matter what position and you can turn over pretty easily. We were contacted via email very quickly after placing the order on Amazon (same day, I think) and Chuck explained that they usual send out a mattress that's a 6 on their comfort scale (1-10, with 1 being ultra-firm) but that we could contact them if we wanted something else. Well, after my online research and trying things in the store, we decided to go for something a bit firmer. We're a little on the heavy side with our weight so we wanted to be comfortable, but also wanted something that would be firm enough to support us (keep our spines aligned without sinking in too far in the butt and/or shoulder areas). After emailing Chuck back with our sleeping positions, weights, etc. we heard from him again pretty quickly with the options he recommended. We elected to go for a 4, which is a 28 ILD (FYI he also offered us a 3.5, so they have the ability to fine-tune things even further with different cover materials). He said they would work on making our mattress that day!It took a week to get to us in Michigan from Arizona, but it was worth the wait. We set up the mattress on the platform we built and went to sleep. Next morning, my back pain was 1/3 of what it usually is when I wake up. I couldn't believe it. I had no idea that my old mattress was so bad (and that this one would be so good!!). It's firm, but cushioned. It supports me, but I sleep like a baby. All I want to do is lie in bed! We've only had it for 2 nights, so I'll try to update this again once we've had more time with it. I doubt my review will change much.Oh FYI Amazon mentions that they use organic wool, but the material covering the bed says "bamboo" all over it. Not sure if the wool is underneath that or what, but bamboo is a great, soft, sustainable material and it feels really nice on the bed.To sum up--I recommend this mattress to anyone who's looking for a high-quality, natural, custom-made in the USA just for you mattress.

This bed is fantastic. Extremely comfortable and my wife and I are very pleased. I ordered a Talay 36 ILD core with a #6 plush topper. It was the right choice. Shipping was right to my door although it took an extra day to get here. I'm 6'1 and 210 lbs and it was a chore for me to get the king set up myself. This is a two person job. Quality is excellent and made in the USA is always a plus. My back has been feeling better already!

Most comfortable mattress I’ve ever known
I purchased this mattress for my custom toy hauler camper conversion. I need a very good mattress due to a cervical spinal injury when I was i was 39 years old. I don’t find slot of mattresses comfortable . I own a $3,000 dollar mattress for home but this mattress is more comfortable than my home mattress. My Dreamfoam mattress is in my camper on a sheet of plywood and it is super comfortable. Highly recommended.

Great product, fantastic service!!
The only thing better than the product they make is their service. We thought we had picked the right comfort level, but was too firm. No problem! One call to Dreamfoam and with our sales rep, Chuck, we figured out the replacement comfort foam level we needed.
