Perfect for the general history reader
I've been reading popular histories for decades, so I can say that this history/biography is one of the best in that category, and probably the best biography of Bismarck. It's vastly more readable than Bismarck: A Life by Jonathan Steinberg, which might be necessary reading for German history majors, but not for people like me who just want the story told in a clear, intelligent way using clear, intelligent English, with no apparent axe to grind, but with seemingly dead-on insights. I feel like I know Bismarck and what he did (good or bad) from every possible-to-know angle. Hurray for Edward Crankshaw.

Lousy Production and poor narration
Why are all the quotations read with the phony, artificial and pretentious accent? If I am reading an English text, I do not want that to be "acceted" in pretentious German. This is a very poor production.
