I placed a towel over the trap to settle him down and he stopped freaking out. I really like the all metal top. It kept the squirrel's claws away from my hand when grabbing the handle. The trap rod was/is a little dicey getting it to stay and I will maybe try filing the side a little like another reviewer advised.

I gave this 3 stars because I did manage to catch one squirrel with it but have one more to catch. Unfortunately the black plastic pieces that hold the door in place broke after one use. Getting the trap to stay set is a little difficult but does hold the animal once it is trapped.

This trap looks good BUT..... the mechanism that releases the door relies on friction to keep the door open and even in the slightest breeze the door drops making the trap useless. I have far more success with a bucket of water for mice and packrats. I bought this to trap ground squirrels but it is useless. Pile of JUNK. Get something else.

I like the cage except I have lost three squirrels because they hit the cage so hard, it turns over and the door opens so they can make their escape. I have tried to adjust the tension on the door to keep it from happening but so far it hasn't worked. To be fair, I have caught and released 6 squirrels, 3 chipmunks, and a bird so it does work most of the time.

I've caught 11 in about 3 weeks. Very satisfied. Significant negative - the 'track' the door slides in is plastic and one side broke - maybe because it was dropped, but its definitely a weak point. Mine is now held together with duct tape, that won't last forever.

We wanted to catch rats. It caught two squirrels. I took them off the property and released them. The trap works.

Trapped and relocated 13 squirrels, 2 more to go. Easy to bait set and relocate.
