Vintage Menswear: A Collection from the Vintage Showroom Hardcover – September 26, 2012

I had been hoping that this book would be as detailed as it is and I am not remotely dissapointed, I had to wait a while for this book as the release date kept being delayed but this is a fantastic book invaluable to Fashion Designers/Students of costume.I really am very impressed with the quality of the photography and the clothes included...someone now needs to get working on a Vintage Womens-wear !

A great compendium of 20th Century menswear. Lots of photos and descriptions of items, although many pieces of clothing tend to be workwear with an emphasis on the practical which is unsurprising since many people are engaged in physical labour rather than sitting in an office. A good book to inspire your own designs.

Love this book! The images are wonderful, and the descriptions are great. Since I like vintage anyway, the collection fed right in to my aesthetics.

This is an amazing book. Arguably the best book on vintage menswear out there. Beautiful pictures, rare pieces, knowledgeable comments. Highly recommended.

Vintage Menswear photographically documents a collection of men's garments of the twentieth century, falling under the three heads of sport, military, and workwear. The book is a welcome addition to the recent wave of publications on clothing history, particularly as it treats the relatively under-examined area of men's fashion. The book, however, proves a bit difficult to review, as the collection that it documents, and the quality of the photography, more than justify the publication of a work whose text may leave readers disappointed. The content of the text is not the problem, but the apparent lack of proofreading or editing should be an embarrassment to the author and the publisher alike. The copy seems to have been composed in haste and not glanced at thereafter. The principal author's other books that I have read, also in the genre of collections of fashion images, are not poorly written, so I wonder if the low stylistic standards here are attributable to the publisher, Laurence King Publishing. Or perhaps there was a failure of coordination between the three co-authors.? On a more specific note, the book would be improved by the addition of concise captions (with dates) associated with each image. On the whole I can recommend the book, though, owing to its presentation of excellent images of some fascinating historical garments.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf sportiver Mode und Funktionalität (Arbeit undMilitär).Das vorliegende Buch zeigt die interessantesten Stücke aus dem Laden. KenntnisreicheBeschreibungen und stimmungsvolle Fotos, die auch viele Details zeigen bringen demLeser die Bekleidung nah. Man kann die gewachste Baumwolle der abgebildeten Barbour Jacke auf dem Papier geradezu riechen.Ein schönes Buch, welches ich häufiger in die Hand nehmen werde.

I purchased the book in order to draw inspiration for my own clothing brand's 2013 collection, and found some real treats. What strikes you the most is just how timeless most of these pieces are. We think we have moved on leaps and bounds from pieces of clothing manufactured in the early 1900's, but in actual fact we owe most of what we have to the these classic designs.The photography and detailing is wonderful and the item descriptions are very informative. The selected pieces have clearly been done carefully, as they do represent key genres very well.I would recommend this book to fashion designers and clothing enthusiasts alike, its a joy that will be picked up again and again for many years to come.P.S. I will certainly hope to visit the museum to see the full collection!

WHAT A GREAT BOOK, FANTASTIC!GREAT IMAGES OF LOTS OF RARE VINTAGE GARMENTS WITHLOTS OF INFORMATION! LOVE IT!I GOT QUITE A LOT OF VINTAGE RELATED BOOKS BUT THIS ISDEFINITELY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE ONES AND I THINK THIS ISSUCH A SPECIAL BOOK!
