Replace Battery or Watch?
I purchased this item twice. I like it very much as a basic heart monitor and watch. If you simply want to check your rate from time to time, and nothing more, this does the trick and works moderately well. If you want a more extensive (and more expensive) monitor that keeps track of your calories, steps, blood pressure, cholesterol count, SAT scores, stock portfolio, etc., you'll have to spend more. This just tells you what your heart rate is after a few seconds when you touch the outer rim of the watch. It does exactly what it says, so it would be worth 5 stars, but it has one major flaw, which is the reason I bought two: The battery replacement requires a "watch service center" to avoid breaking the waterproof seal. That would not be a problem for me, since I don't regularly scuba dive while at the same time wondering what my heart rate is. But even though I dismantled the back to do the battery replacement myself, I could not access the battery compartment without tearing the whole thing apart. I decided it was cheaper to order a brand new watch and get it the next day through Amazon prime than go to the trouble of finding a watch service center and having to pay the cost of a new battery and labor. If someone has an idea about how to self-replace the battery in this watch, please save me the cost of ordering a third one when the battery runs out. The battery on my first lasted about 1-1/2 years, but battery life depends on the age of the battery when "new" and of course the usage.

Very Happy
Very happy with this purchase. There were some negative posts about this item, so we weren't sure. My husband and I spent 2 days researching heart rate monitors and settled on this one. We've had no issues. All you need to do to check your HR while working out is place your finger on the silver circle on the face. It's really quite simple.

Easy to use & see the numbers.
My husband's old heart rate monitor stopped working & I needed to find a strapless one. This is easy to read & easy to use, but he feels it's a little too small. Unfortunately, the larger size is discontinued & when I found a different watch that was larger, he says it not as easy to read & takes longer to get the pulse, so he still prefers this one.

Mixed opinion
I purchased this HR watch for my 85 year old father who just had a pace maker/ dephibrulator put in and wants to monitor his heart rate while in the rehab process. This watch does not read his heart rate at all. He has tried it numerous times with no results. However, it works good on me. The reading fluctuates 2-4 beats per reading, but it is accurate enough. It is the med size. The face is large enough to read the numbers without my reading glasses, but not to large and bulky for a petite female. The size is good for a male or female. So, I will keep it and use it during my workouts. I do not have to have my cell phone on me to see my HR. Since this is a mixed review, I gave it three stars.

" Very disappointed with watch
Don't remember what I paid for it but not worth any price. Many issue with watch, particularly with HR monitor. Watch gains several minutes every 24 hours. Heart rate monitor locks without touching watch. Has to be manually unlocked constantly which is a pain while exercising. Also, watch has very small dial...can be difficult to read. Whatever happened to the old Timex's.."it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin?" Very disappointed with watch.

Does what I need
Does everything I need. Good, accurate pulse meter. (I've checked both manually and against the pulse meters at the gym.) Watch, stop watch, and other functions I don't use. Some of the other reviewers have complained about not being able to get a reading when the are sweating (glistening, for the ladies). I have not had that problem. Just apply a little pressure when you touch the ring around the watch face and you should be fine.

Great heart rate watch without having to charge it or connect to a computer
This simple watch which has all the functions I need also is very a very accurate heart touch rate monitor. Do NOT buy one that uses infrared or other such technologies. This one lets you know exactly what your HR is without all the bother of a strap, charging nightly, or linking to a computer.

and I am happy with the Active mode that estimates my calories
It does what is says it will do, but it took a while for me to figure out the settings. I think it's just about as accurate as a gym machine, and I am happy with the Active mode that estimates my calories. That's interesting. If it included a pedometer, I'd be in heaven. But for the price and considering that I was more interested in a watch that happened to have a heart rate monitor, I think it works just fine.
