The Dog

I received this book as a Birthday gift. Reading it I was touched to the depth of my core on every level. I don't want to say too much here to reveal how it's written but the POV is the most unusual, sensitive, exhilarating, adventurous, touching and heartfelt piece. Absolutely love this. Gifted it to four people already. This must be passed on.Northern European female writers are amazing and deserve a lot of attention.

It was ok.It didn't really grab me and I don't quite understand how it became such an acclaimed book.

This book basically has two characters (although there are others included very briefly) - a dog and a man. Neither is named and the story is told completely through the dog's experiences as he survives from puppy-to-adulthood in the wilderness, before becoming united with a man. As such the book is direct, simplistic and a wonderful exploration of the drive to survive - warts and all.

The author knows dogs and his descriptions of nature are beautiful.

Being mainly told by the dog. It was very interesting having him tell us how he survived. Sometimes it almost brought tears to your eyes. Then the rescue part kept you on edge. A very nice story.

So detailed I felt like I was in the dog's paws. I enjoyed the perspective of the dog and the man's thoughts at the end. Great story I read in 1 day I wished it was longer! A must read for all dog lover's.

I'm a sucker for stories about dogs and horses. "The Dog" was by far one of the most interesting and very different ones that I've read. Although the story may tear at your heart while reading what this little puppy and then young dog went through to survive, you'll be smiling with the sweet, happy ending. It confirms my faith in the relationship between dogs and humans who really care.

And now for something totally different ... A must-read, particularly for animal lovers. I now understand my own pooch so much better - different worldview from ours!

This is probably the most boring novel I've ever read. I finished it and then put it directly in the charity shop pile. Wouldn't recommend and definitely would not read again.

I love this book

Good story, using it to help me understand the original Swedish book. Therefore good for language learning. Animal loving adventurous children will enjoy.

Beautifully simple. I could almost feel the frost on my skin and the sun on my face. Couldn't put it down and will certainly read again.
