Love this Yacon syrup, so versatile and works great!
I am attempting to find new things to use in my food that are better for me than regular sugar and some of the other sweeteners that can cause a lot more problems. I used to bake a lot and I haven't baked much lately, but once in a while I do get the "bug" and have to do it. I normally don't even eat what I bake - I do it because it is stress-relieving for me :)I am also in the early stages of Type 2 diabetes so eating healthier and using less sugar is more important than ever for me. And Yacon Syrup is supposed to be very good for blood glucose levels and also as a weight loss product. But I didn't know that it was also good for your kidneys. Now, for me the kidney benefits were HUGE because my 7 year old daughter has Williams syndrome and along with this syndrome comes a proclivity for renal problems. I do everything I can to make sure my daughter eats healthy BUT as anyone who has kids surely knows, they are picky eaters and although she is 7 her developmental stage is about 3 years of age which makes her a toddler. Yeah. So multiply the average toddler pickiness by about 10 and you get my daughter LOL. It is a daily struggle with her. She loves candy and sweets and of course cookies but they have to be chocolate chip cookies. I keep her away from as much sweet stuff as I can, but I do give her sweets maybe once a day to keep her happy. So I decided to try making her favorite some chocolate chip cookies with the Yacon Syrup instead of some sugar. And guess what? She loved it - never noticed that it was different! And let me tell you - this child smells everything ... she notices if there is a teeny tiny amount of butter on pasta and will turn her nose up at it. So when she didn't notice a difference it was a huge thing!I love the smell of this product - I am a HUGE fan of yams and this reminds me faintly of them. It also has a little bit of the molasses smell, so you get a nice rounded off sweetness in whatever you use it for. The best part is that you can use this in drinks, baking, meals, OR you can just take it as a dietary supplement! It is suggested that you take 1 tsp a day 3 times a day. It makes a great sweetener for butter to spread on your favorite breads. You can basically use this for anything you want which makes it extremely versatile. And the bottle is small enough if you wanted to take it somewhere you would be able to slip it into your purse or bag. This way you could have it wherever you wanted without worry :) And of course it is PURE and 100% natural which is a huge deal these days. It has tons of antioxidants and everything you need to get healthy! Grab a bottle of it now and give it a whirl - I promise you won't be disappointed! Oh and did I mention that it also has prebiotic and probiotic properties??? So it supports your immune system as well. I received a complimentary product to test :)

Worth sticking with awhile.
I haven't used it long enough to know if it aids in weight loss. I do like that I can take it right before a meal as I have a hard time remembering to take something 30 minutes before I eat. I am willing to work with it awhile as it has other benefits and it does not have an unpleasant taste.

Very tasty.
I really like this. I tried it right from the spoon and it was very good. Way too expensive to use as an everyday sweetener though. I can't say whether it cuts my appetite because I'm already on a weight loss program and I've only taken the yacon for a couple of days. It also was nice in my morning coffee.

Bottle makes no statement about containing any FOS, the only reason you buy Yacon syrup
Something amiss with the claim on the amount of FOS. The way to know how potent/useful this product is is by the amount of FOS. In the product description it says, "up to 67% FOS." This means absolutely nothing. It could have a trace amount and still be true to word. It's just as true to say up to 99% FOS. But the real claim will be found on the product label which, alas, doesn't claim to have any FOS what-so-ever! FOS is what this product is about. If this had impressive FOS amounts, certainly anything approaching 67% or even 50%, then I strongly believe the manufacturer would boast about it, as do other competing manufacturers. I bought this based on the nebulous FOS claim here but see no indication that this has any FOS. Prove me wrong and I'll pull my one star review.

Suits my taste buds. Jury is out on weight loss for a few months.
After reading several websites including nih.gov on Yacon Syrup I gave this a try. I started on the Sonoma Diet and in this diet you use agave to replace sugar. Unbeknownst to me agave does have a low glycemic index but high fructose which is bad news for those with inflammation and are pre diabetic. I found Yacon syrup and all sites say it is low on fructose, low on GI scale and safe to eat. I later learned Dr. Oz endorsed it for weight loss on his program and that sounded like a winner. The expiration on this particular bottle was March 2015 and I purchased it Jan 15, 2015. It will probably be long gone by then. I poured the product out of the dark bottle into a syrup dispenser and thought I was shorted on the amount. That was not the case. It hardens at the bottom and I had to use a thin knife to get it loose. I then remixed it in the syrup dispenser and it was ok and the consistency would pour out of it.On to the taste of it. I really like old fashioned molasses, not sorgham and not from an evaporator. In my opinion this tastes like the old fashioned molasses. It is strong if eaten directly from a spoon but I put a taste on wheat bread and it was awesome. I am starting off eating a teaspoon on plain yogurt or something I need sweetened and see how it goes. I had intended to use it in baking but the information from the company above said it does not retain positive properties when cooking like in a cake. It actually said cool like in a cake but I am confident it means not to cook it. So much for sweetening homemade brown rice waffles. My research shows it is pre and probiotic in nature which means better flora in the tummy and more bathroom needs. On the upside it seems to help cholesterol and GI numbers. I will post more if I have any additional info to add.UPDATE: After a few days I had a 3-4 pound weight loss. I like that but since then I have plateaued again. I am going to try a little longer to see how it does. I can't really tell much difference in weight loss. The last bottle did not have an expiration date on it that I could find. The product was hard. I cut the bottle open and it had a lot of product left in it. I had used a knife to cut it out but gave up on it and cut the bottle in two pieces. There was a quite a bit left inside and I wonder how much I have been throwing out and didn't know it. It is not safe to cut the bottles to have to get the product out for obvious reasons, contamination and plastic chips could get in it. I threw out the whole bottle once I cut it because I didn't think about the contamination until after the fact. I am reducing the stars to a two and am going on to another product.
