Around 14 months, we actually bought a second one and replaced our original. Not because it broke, but because we hoped a fresh start might help with odor control now that she’s eating solids and having more frequent bowel movements. What I’ve come to realize is that it’s not the diaper pail—it’s just the reality of toddler diapers. When she was younger, we could go 2-3 days without emptying it. Now, we really need to empty it daily or every other day to keep odors in check. That’s just part of the phase. Even with that, the Ubbi is excellent. The steel construction does a much better job of locking in odors compared to plastic pails we’ve tried, and the fact that you can use regular kitchen trash bags is a huge plus—no overpriced refill bags required. I’ve also started putting a small baking soda air freshener at the bottom of the pail, and that’s helped a bit too. After about a year of use with the first pail, I did notice a couple of subtle dents and a small rust mark on the exterior, but nothing that affected performance. Clearly, that didn’t stop me from buying another one!
