Product Description All great human passions - whether romantic, creative, inventive, or transformative - begin with a single spark. On her tenth album as a leader, Japanese pianist/composer Hiromi traces the path of the flame ignited by that spark as it consumes and inspires. Over the course of nine expressively charged songs, the listener is carried away on an impassioned spiritual journey that might tell the story of a personal discovery, a love affair, or the creation of the music itself. The pianist finds her own spark in her interaction with her trio mates of the last five years, bass guitarist Anthony Jackson (Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Chick Corea, The O'Jays) and drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, David Gilmour, Judas Priest, Toto, Jack Bruce). "One of the most exciting groups working in any genre today." - Downbeat Magazine

Buy it!
I was lucky enough to see Hiromi and her Trio Project in London last November.. They opened with an absolutely memorising track which was followed by many other new numbers. I've been licking my lips with anticipation for this album, and what a treat it is!The opener, the same from the gig, is pure magic. The intro solo is so beautiful and emotive, it promises much, which Jackson and Philips of course help to deliver. It was a privilege to see Hiromi also perform with Stanley Clarke a few weeks ago. The second set opened with my favourite track of hers "Old Castle By The River In The Forest". When Hiromi finished her solo rendition, Stanley walked on stage saying "follow that!", still get goosebumps remembering. There are some tracks on Spark, that are in my opinion of the same league. "Indulgence" is one of those to stick on repeat, as is "Spark".Buy it, you will be happy you did.

Hiromi proves herself the queen of fusion once again
I own all the previous Hiromi albums and would normally award five stars automatically as she is a favourite of mine. Hiromi has perfected the chemistry of her trio and this album rewards repeated listening due to the complexity of some of the compositions. Overall this is an excellent album, though my personal preference is for 'Move' and 'Alive'. Anyone who enjoys the fusion of jazz, classical and rock genres will love it.

Sparks are fliyng certainly with this disc
yes this one grows on you the more you play it undertones of Keiko Matsui etc I bought this album after reading a Hifi magazine review and its was worth the purchase. My hi end Japanese Audio components seems to show this cd of very well. From liner notes this album has been recorded with state of art equipment .So may we have a SACD disc version coming as DSD is mentioned etc.

Waiting for a "spark"
Don't get me wrong, I love Hiromi's playing and previous albums but amidst all the superb technical skills displayed on this album on every instrument I am still waiting for the "spark" of creative genius which her previous compositions provide in spadefuls. This is sadly lacking for me in this new work. The trio as always though show how a band in harmony and timed perfection should sound.

Talent Most Can Only Dream Of
Outstanding from start to finish. I will let others dissect the brilliance in depth, all I will say is find some time, turn down the lights, pour a glass of red wine and enjoy music at its best.
