The Best Book of Pirates Paperback – April 19, 2006

I purchased this gift to give to our grandson who loves anything to do with pirates and uses his Legos to create complicated battles using the figures as pirates. As others have said in their reviews, I was disappointed, at first, by the limited number of pages (32) it contained considering that I paid $22.00 for it and the back cover price originally was $7.00. It may be out of print or harder to find thus accounting for the increased price. In any case, after looking through the book, I was satisfied that it was worth purchasing it because it was so well written and complete in its information regarding everything there is to know about pirates. My grandson was happy with it also and that is all that matters!

This is the kind of book that your child can treasure for years. The colorful illustrations are great for younger readers. My son is three and he brings me this book every night so I an read it to him. This is not a toddler's book, however. The brief text accompanying the graphics is historically accurate and informative and will enthrall older kids. The book traces the origins of piracy from the Greeks 2000 years ago to those of today. There are even two pages devoted to pirate women!

The Best Book of Pirates, is a very informational book without the bore. The pictures in the book are wonderful to look at, colorful, as well as, packed with labels. The pictures themselves are all labeled, from parts of a ship to pirate weapons. You name it this book has everything on pirates. I thought this book would be huge, in fact, its only 32 pages long, however, has all the information I needed to start my pirate study!

A real source of quiet time reading and discussion this past summer as we learned all about pirates at “Camp Memaw and Grandaddy”.
