High success rate!
Our city home on edge of town backs up to vineyards and horse ranch in CA. Rats were present before but 2017 fires in the area displaced entire colonies of roof rats causing an enormous problem. My next door neighbor and I caught over 100 rats in 2018, the vast majority were caught with these traps, after diligently setting and resetting mainly T-Rex traps for over a year we finally achieved the upper hand and seldom see or hear rat signs of late. We did a far better job than local pest control companies using standard Victor traps. There is a pretty good plastic Victor trap out there for less than the T Rex - but we have more successIn the attic I lay them out unprotected, caught a family of six in one night. Twice I caught two at once in one trap (outdoors), my neighbor caught seven rats in a row in one trap, six while we sat in the garden during the evening and reset after each kill, then another was caught overnight.Outdoors I use bait boxes by Bell labs (the straight through type work better for me than the "Ambush" model) or we place behind large boards against fences the openings of which are protected from pets and wildlife - especially birds which you will almost certainly kill if these are left unprotected - then you feed the rats a gourmet dinner on top of reducing our already stressed bird population. I tried the Chinese knock off's - don't waste your money, they break almost immediately, if you see these advertised for a bargain price they will be a poor imitation of the real thing.A few tips:Always wear disposable gloves when handling traps, always wear leather gloves if dealing with a rat that is still alive.Always tie traps and bait boxes down, keep an axe or other instrument handy for those rats that are trapped but not dead. Or have a bucket of water ready to drop the entire bait box and/or trap and rodent into.PLEASE do not use poison, research the reasons not to if you don't know why already. The best bait we found are small parts of suet block for feeding birds - $1 supplies a very high volume of bait material, crumble some leading up to the trap.My most success was on the wooden fence rail that became a rat super highway linking many homes; if you have a well travelled top of fence with a rail create a tunnel with boards on each side of the rail, I use chicken wire for the roof of the tunnel - staple down one side and use hooks, screws / nail on the other side for ease of opening up the chicken wire roof to remove kills and reset, you must also create chicken wire overlaps at both ends and close off the tunnel during daylight or you will definitely catch birds, If you don't have time, or can't be bothered opening and closing each evening and morning please just don't bother with this at all. Place two traps back to back & facing opposite directions. The traps have two small holes on the back end, hammer them into the fence with long nails but leave a good portion of the nail exposed and clip the head off with pliers. These traps snap with force and will disappear with a not quite dead rat, or remaining rats will drag them away and eat their trapped brethren. Finding just a gnawed off leg or mostly eaten caught rat is common. This way your trap stays in place and is easy to lift up and put back - you could wire them off instead but I found this easier. I caught dozens and dozens with this method, small younger rats would squeeze through the chicken wire when I accidentally left the tunnel closed overnight - boom, another kill - they just have to get at that suet!I could go on but there is already a lot of info out there - good luck, happy to answer questions if I see them pop upWhy do I care so much about birdlife? Are you aware how many are killed each year in the US (and everywhere else in the world) just by cats? (hint, for the USA start with billions not millions) - I love cats too but this is a sad and well documented fact. Then there is destruction of habitat, pollution, and on and on - give these beautiful creatures help and a break whenever you can - especially when setting rodent traps outdoors. Thank you.

Best Rat trap ever! Until they both broke!
Best rat catcher I've ever owned. I've had this for a couple of years now and every time I see evidence of a rat, I set and it up and it gets them every time. Peanut butter works great. I just ordered one for my son and his family and it took care of his problem the first night he set it out. Easy to set up and clean and no more snapped fingers.FOLLOW-UP Like this review states, I've had one for a couple of years and I bought another one in Nov. of 2015. They worked great but both of them have broken. They both broke at the same place, where the top of the base and bottom of the jaw connect at the hinge. Too bad, they were great traps but if they don't last, like these, I'll look for something else. I e-mailed the manufacturer and they have no warranty, they told me to check with Amazon. I have had them too long to return to Amazon.

Same thing happened with these traps what happened with the other large traps I ordered from Big snap rat trap, a couple of them caught a mouse or two and then quit working they wouldn't stay in the loaded position that just snapped the minute I set them down. I was going to return both sets but couldn't get my printer to print out the return label so just forgot the whole thing.

I am now a rat killer!
Have seen some rats around my home so I put peanut butter inside the cup and placed these traps. Within one day caught four giant size rats the size of a small dog. They were all killed by the jaws of death closing on their heads. My wife now proudly calls me the rat killer. I am ordering 12 more of these right now.

These are the real deal from 'We Sell Direct' they really are T-Rex and NOT the cheap chinese knockoffs I had before that broke on day 2. My previous T-Rex lasted 2 years ,and it was in the sun. I bought a second one from this seller.

We had a bad issue with the rats in my neighborhood. These traps are great and were able to kill rats as big as a small Chihuahua. Also you don't have to touch the rat when you empty the trap so that is a bonus.
