as a connoisseur of fountain pens, well maybe not, but i am experienced in the use of them... i wanted to like this one so much. the pen itself looks great, the cap fits on both ends very well, and has a great weight and feel to it. Where it falls short is the ink flow. AWFUL. You may get a few words or you may get a full sentence, never can tell. it just stops flowing randomly. I tried both of the Refill cartridges as well as the adapter or refillable tube that comes with it. I soaked the nib of the pin thinking that maybe some ink had dried in there and made sure it was clean and free as well. still no help. i am returning it with the hopes that the next one will be better but thought that potential buyers should be warned. If the replacement works as expected, I will change my review.

This pen has a weight to it that just works for me. The nib size is near perfect, and the finish is baked on tough yet elegant and stylish. Also, the pocket clip is stronger than my granddaughters grasp! You can not beat this price, and folks i promise you will be taken well care of if you have an issue. These are some of the nicest folks to deal with if you are a fountain pen user and lover like I am. Couldn't be happier with the entire experience. I received this little guy today. It came nicely packaged in a box with a velvet backing, some instructions, a 2 year warranty card, the two ink cartridges, and the converter. It's a very attractive pen with a matte black finish, and it definitely seems to be at least mostly made of some lightweight metal. The coating both feels and looks satiny smooth; in the light it is almost a very dark brown, with the knurling on the body and the clip being just a tiny bit darker. Really just gorgeous. The light knurling on the body is just enough to help grip the pen, but not at all sharp. The cap clicks on securely, and sounds vaguely like plastic, but I'm pretty sure it's metal anyway.. It posts well onto the back of the pen. I have not used a fountain pen since high school, and never used a converter, so I chose to install one of the ink cartridges. The ink is black and did not feather on the lightweight sketch paper I used. The pen has a good weight and writes smoothly with no skips, and I like the sound the nib makes against the paper. So there is a bit of "drag" with this fine nib, at least on this paper, but it's pleasant feeling, if that makes sense. Is it a great fountain pen? Maybe and maybe not; I could not judge. But it is a decent quality writing instrument, and it is a pleasure to hold and write with. I plan to load the converter with my Mystery blue ink when the cartridge runs out. I also think I will get an additional one as a gift for someone. I am happy with this pen.

This is the first Hongdian pen I’ve ever used and I am a huge fan.Feel: I love the way this pen feels in your hand. It has a great weight to it without being excessive, and it just feels like a nice pen. This is one of the major factors for me in buying a fountain pen. I don’t want a flimsy, light feel. I want something like this one, sturdy and high-end feeling.Writing: The ink flows beautifully. Very smooth and very enjoyable to write with. From the time I picked it up to try it out after it arrived, I haven’t put it down! I’m glad it came with an extra ink capsule, because I’m going to be using this pen a lot!Overall, this pen is an excellent buy. I love the way it feels in my hand, love the way it writes, and I really love the price point. I have been saving up for a LAMY for a while now, but after reading some of their reviews on Amazon, and trying out this pen, I’m sticking with Hongdian. If you’re looking for a gift for someone, this makes a good choice. The packaging that arrived was very nice.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  The package and presentation is very elegant! The logo is embossed in gold on a dark gray outer sleeve. The pen has a nice heavy feel in your hand. In the box it comes attached to a padded velvet pillow and a nice thank you card from the maker. It comes with two ink cartridges and a converter, which I assume is used with a container of ink, you can fill the pen with ink or use a cartridge. It’s nice to have options.The box included instructions on how to install the pre-filled ink cartridges and the converter. It took a few tries to get the ink flowing, I had to take the cartridge out a few times and reinsert it. On the third try I really felt it click in, and that’s when I knew it was good to go. A few gentle taps on the paper and the ink started to flow. The flow of ink is nice and consistent, a delicate, fine tip with a lovely look. I can’t wait to use it all day!

It was delivered within two days and provides a great presentation upon arrival. The pen is lightly weighted with extra cartridges for use, comes with easy to follow instructions, and a lovely little box I am definitely keeping for later use! It did take me a second to figure out how to change the cartridges since it doesn't come set up with ink in the pen already. I followed the instructions and a minute later, I had a nice glossy pen to use. Taking it to work with me today and already thrilled to tell a few people about my new pen. I think it's a quality pen that woeks great so far and looks great, and would recommend.
