The Wars of the Roses is over...
and I've won. I've lost enough blood to roses and citrus over the years to stock a blood bank. Since I've had to start taking low-dose aspirin, it's only gotten worse. What bothers me is why I never thought to buy these gloves. Got them yesterday and tried them out immediately on two of our worst rose bushes, wild roses with heavy-duty thorns right down to the ground, low branches, and the worst, toughest weeds growing right at the base. The weeds were there because weeding around those bushes was impossible. I'd had many pairs of cheap leather gloves that tore and punctured immediately under the onslaught of roses, and my forearms would come out looking like I'd tried to slit my wrists in the dark.So I splurged and bought these. Yesterday I was able to clear out the bases of those roses without a scratch or puncture on my hands or forearms. The gloves are so soft I don't know how they resist holes being poked in them, but they do. And the gauntlets are kind of amazing - nothing can get through them, yet they're soft enough to wipe the sweat off your forehead. The fingers are fine enough to allow me to pull weeds - no other gloves have let me get a firm grip. My great hope is that these gloves last at least a year. The roses weren't going to give up without a fight, of course. I wonder if Fir Tree makes shoulder-length gloves. BTW, I'm male, 6-2/185lbs. - my hands aren't huge, but I'm glad I ordered the XL. Guys with bigger hands might have a hard time getting these on.NOVEMBER 15, 2015 NOTE TO THOSE WHOSE GLOVES HAVE A DEFECT, LIKE SEAMS UNRAVELING ETC. That happened to mine after 8 months of use - though I used them only about 10 times in that period. I contacted the seller through my orders page and attached a photo of the hole, and Isabel at Fir Tree replied immediately and arranged to send me another pair free - even after 8 months, and I didn't even have to return the defective pair (not that I want to use them since you know rose thorns, and agave thorns, and citrus thorns will make a beeline for that hole - that's just how life works). These days on the Internet, excellent customer service is crucial - too many vendors don't realize this fundamental fact, but Fir Tree does. IOW, really caring about their product and their customers' experience. If I could give them another 5 stars for customer service, I would.

Not Only For Rose Bush Pruning/Trimming
My old rose gardening gloves were finally wearing out after many years of use so I began my search for replacements. I absolutely loved my old gloves and had them so many years I didn't even remember where I purchased them. I looked and looked. Read review after review and finally decided on these. Am so glad I did. They are heavier than my old gloves but still feel comfortable and not too thick/bulky in the hands. Are flexible enough to allow for detailed pruning of my rose bushes. Arms are nice and long to prevent scratching/thorn damage to skin. Have not had any thorns come through the gloves when pruning.I now used these gloves for all pruning and trimming of my shrubs ... not only roses. Great for picking up lawn debris too as they protect not only my hands but arms as well.Am going to purchase another pair to keep in the wings so I will have them on hand when the original pair wears out. I think they will last quite a while as they are very well made and seem quite sturdy.I wear a size 7 glove and purchased the small - they fit great - not too big and not too small, but just right!

Bought these gloves to protect from poison ivy. Love these gloves!
We recently bought a 100 acre ranch in central Texas. Our very first task was to clear several areas of the land that had been over run with brush, weeds, and Wild rose bushes. Apparently it only took one day to get into poison ivy. I was wearing a standard pair of gloves. Needless to say, I had a very strong allergic reaction to the poison ivy. Shortly thereafter, I managed to get into chiggers which further complicated my situation. I was a walking itch bomb. I also won't mention how scratched up my forearms were from the Wild rose bushes. Ultimately I bought these gloves to protect from all three of the above. I looked and looked at different stores for a pair that covered forearms but learned quickly that these are hard to find. I love these gloves. They are super soft and the strong material keeps my forearms protected. If I had one little complaint it is that the thorns will actually pierce the leather over the hand area when gripping the bush. However in all fairness, I haven't found many things that those thorns won't pierce. I should also mention that the craftsmanship on these gloves were excellent. The leather is super soft and breathes easily. They also came in a very nice pouch to store. I believe the quality was definitely worth the price I paid for these gloves. I would absolutely recommend this to other buyers. If this review was helpful, please click yes below. :-)

Love
I love these gloves for all my yardwork. I have very sensitive skin and these keep my hands and arms protected doing all types of outdoor work without restricting my range of motion or sense of touch. They are soft so not the absolute most durable but I have put them through the ringer this season and they have held up very well. Highly recommend

Nice gloves, good feel.
Nice gloves, good feel, reasonably good strength. About sizing, I used the size chart and bought accordingly. When I first tried putting them on I was reminded of trying to fit into my Levis right after they came out of the dryer. I was thinking of returning them. However, they did fit, and after a few hours of using them they turned out to be the correct size. I'm glad I did not buy the larger size. I work mostly with LARGE rose bushes and am please with the protection. I'm no ape, but I wish the arms were maybe an inch longer. Good quality. Good value. I'd buy them again - in fact I bought a pair for my sister.
