Nice, But No Edge
Seems like a nice maul, however, i haven't used it yet because it arrived with no edge. its kind of annoying that i have to take it and pay to have an edge put on it before i can use it. i can keep a good edge from there, but i don't have the equipment to put the initial edge on something. i just wanted to be able to split wood with no hassle, but now its one more thing on my list of stuff to do.

Actual weight is a mystery
Item weight is located in the listing under specs. HOWEVER, there is s conflict. The steel head is listed as 6lbs and the shipping weight is 3.5 lbs. I am looking elsewhere for a more consistent listing where I am more confident in getting what I need. I want to replace my 8lb True Temper maul. It has split 4 cord a year for 8 yrs. My poor aim broke the handle.

Excellent tool. Very happy with it.
I did my best to split some aged eucalyptus with a very functional camp axe and it was a nightmare. Nothing against my camp axe but it's not designed for that, primarily. I bought this splitting maul and my world got much more pleasant. It's a great maul and well made. The edge was great from the factory and not in need of any conditioning. You should not expect a hair thin, razor sharp edge on this tool. A maul works because of it's shape and weight. It's designed as a wedge that forces the wood apart as it moves through the wood. It is not designed to slice the wood in half with a razor edge. Also, axe edges are always more blunt than knife edges and may appear "Dull". If they weren't, they edges would chip and roll every time you used them.Don't be discouraged by another review that stated he / she needed to pay someone to sharpen the axe. I'd be more than willing to bet that person has no idea how to use a splitting maul and the maul was perfectly functional when it was purchased. This maul is not designed to chop trees down, so know your tools and how they're used.

Check the weight before you purchase one like this.
Had the description indicated the weight, I would not have purchased this. It is too light In weight and was very difficult to try to split the logs. I shopped locally for a heavier one. Great picture though!

Gets the job done fast
I am very new to wood splitting, and this axe actually made it fun. Light enough to really get a solid fast accurate swing, heavy enough to do the job. I made much quicker work of my logs auth tis than with my friend's 8 pounder.

Head fell off after very light use
I bought one of these at a local home improvement store. After splitting about 50 small logs, the head came off. Apparently it is just pressed on around the plastic collar.
