Devdas - 1955 [Bimal Roy / Dilip Kumar] (Classic Hindi Film / Bollywood Movie / Indian Cinema DVD)

Dilip Kumar is annoying here as only a truly remarkable actor can be. This movie is filmed a if you are reading a book. You are introduced to the characters gradually--it is not rushed your heart slowly starts to ache for the young lovers and you really want them to win yet you know it won't happen. You continue to watch as the story unfolds caught up despite yourself in the work of these gifted actors. The director has you trapped and will not release you until the final scene. Great movie! Dilip Kumar !!

I collect classic Hindi movies and had to include this awesome version of DEVDAS to my collection. Very sad love story 😥 I received the DVD promptly and in great condition. Extremely satisfied with my purchase and will definitely use vendor again.

Vaijayanthi Mala is absolutely beautiful in this movie. The development of the relationship between Devdas and Parvathi since their childhood is portrayed very nicely. This old film may lack the technology, color and glamour of the very successful 2002 version, but it has a lot more substance, and gives an insight into the social life and social rules of the early 1900s Bengal. It is the closest to the original 1935 Talkie. `Devdas' was so popular that there is one film in almost every Indian language. Some are really bad, like the Malayalam version.

I found this to be very informative in reference to the childhood relationship that Devdas and Parvati had as children. It was also set in a realistic environment and answered questions that the up to date Devdas doesn't.

The movie of DEVDAS is an absolute feast for the eyes. A superb example of Bollywood filmmaking. I saw this film in Los Angeles on the big screen and was excited to buy the 3 disc release by EROS. First of all, the disc labeled "The Movie" was actually the "Special Features" disc and vice-versa. Sloppy quality control. The 3rd disc labeled "The Movie - English Version" was labeled correctly. The quality of the DVD video transfer was so-so. Not up to Hollywood studio standards. There are blemishes all over the image, which means that there was no digital clean-up done at all. Unsophisticated viewers will probably not notice. When you select "Movie" from the Menu, instead of the movie, you get endless trailers. Doesn't EROS know anything about proper DVD Authoring?

Devdas is a must-see for both Bollywood and musical fans alike! The entire film is visually stunning, with vivid colors and breathtakingly beautiful sets. The musical numbers are extremely entertaining and have on several occasions inspired myself and my fellow viewers to get up and dance. The plot of the movie is devastatingly tragic though, so prepare yourself to be brought to tears throughout the film. Devdas remains one of my all time favorite movies EVER and I highly recommend watching it!
