I burned it out . . .
I burned out the Makita 9565PCV grinding out thickly applied "thinset" with the Dewalt diamond cup in preparation for laying a wood floor in my kitchen. An expensive mistake. It's my fault. I should have read the reviews. I was bearing down on the tool to make the work go faster (it did) but the handle started getting hot. I should have stopped. It started smoking and barely running. Hoping to replace the armature, I tried to take it apart but it was fused together. Total loss. I bought the Makita 9565CV to finish the job. I took my time and and the handle never got warm. I used the Makita mask attached to my ridgid shop vacuum to keep the dust to a minimum. I like the Makita 9565CV better because it has a simple on/off switch. The Makita 9565PCV has a cool paddle, but for extended runs, I like the simple on/off switch better. The Makitas are expensive, but they are light and powerful.

The soft-start makes all the difference !
This is my 4th Makita angle grinder. I still have my 4" and 4.5" units with different wheels but this one is my new favorite with the variable speed and soft-start. It has all the power without the sudden starts of the older models. Yes, it's a bit on the expensive side, but totally worth it !

DO NOT BUY THIS GRINDER!!!!!!!
Can't give it NO STARS!Have other Makita tools. Long time served me well. This paddle grinder has great features, BUT after a total of 4 hrs use the replacement grinder is starting to malfunction.Needed a paddle switch and variable speed. The smaller one (4.5 inch) Variable speed paddle switch is not offered or maybe discontinued. My friend has had his 4.5 inch paddle switch grinder for years and suggested the Makita grinder due to sanding at slower speeds. Not too many reviews on this machine at least negative reviews when I purchased it. Ninety day return by Amazon and they've always been good as I am a prime member. Purchased in May, and returned toward the end of may for an exchange. Now must contact the manufacturer. Must do so having spent 3 times what I have paid for some grinders from Harbor Freight .Might be just me and this item, but the paddle switch, on low speed , takes a second now to start again after being switched off. The bearings are making noise which I might expect from my Harbor Freight grinders. I bought the Harbor Freight extended warranty, just in case. This is unacceptable considering what the advertised features and power is of this grinder.Amazon just blew me off via chat line saying "past ninety days." So I will have to go to the Webb page for Makita. ( Having trouble getting on it?)No more Makita tools at this point! Milwaukee and Bosch do not make a variable speed grinder in this size.I will post the results from Makita, and I may change my review, but from now on I have to put in more hours on any purchase from amazon early on to see if the tool will fail.Update: Just spoke with the guy who services and represents Makita. I'd taken the grinder to him as the grinder now hesitates when I hit the paddle in low speeds which is why I bought it and the bearing noise is as loud as my Harbor Freight 6 amp grinders that I run full out. If you buy a contract for a few bucks more they exchange with no questions. Makita says that's normal!!!!! And they will only replace the grinder if it quits. If this is how they stand behind their best grinder???? Buyer Beware!

SJS is fantastic, the clutch released when the blade gets stuck ...
SJS is fantastic, the clutch released when the blade gets stuck or over load. This is what l like about Makita and Milwaukee they both have great ideas.
