Excellent rivnut tool
Bought this tool after reading the review here. I'm building a kit car and need to set a few dozen rivnuts into the chassis for mounting of brackets and other accessories. The tool does the job very well. Compared to the manual threaded rivnut tools, this works much faster and the fact that it sets most of the standard metric rivnuts makes it a rare tool. Last positive is the low cost. It rivals manual threaded tools in price and is almost as easy to use a hydraulic setter. EDIT 2013-08-03: I snapped the M6 stud in the kit. My fault for over stressing it. The tool has been out of warranty for a few months when I contacted Astro Tools wanting to purchase a replacement stud. They sent it free of charge, I didn't even have to pay for shipping! I would give this product 6 stars for customer service.

and it's easy enough to back the Mandrel out of the Riv-Nut ...
Vast Improvement over my older, more Traditional 90 degree style /Pop Rivet Gun Style Riv Nut Setter- You get more leverage with the long arms on this Setter, and it's easy enough to back the Mandrel out of the Riv-Nut that you just installed with the large, comfortable black plastic knob at the end of the tool. Kit comes with multiple Mandrels and Nose Pieces for installing Metric Riv-nuts. Very decent quality for the price- Hopefully it lasts since it works so well, we'd hate to have it break on us. One quick note, you'll need about a 3/4" clearance around any Riv-nut you're installing since the nose piece at the end of the tool is fairly large in diameter. For most flat/out-in-the-open work, this will never be an issue, but retro work where you don't have the option of how something is made or is possibly in your way, just plan ahead with the room required to make this tool get close to the surface of what you're installing the Riv-Nut into.

Good, once you figure out how to use it. Great Price
I bought this tool because I had about 10 rivnuts that I needed to install in carbon fiber and the standard cheap tool from harbor freight did not accommodate metric rivnuts. Considering that this tool costs the same or less than the price of an individual mandrel, the price on this tool is fantastic. Once I figured out how to use it, the tool worked great. It takes a little bit of elbow grease to use, but nothing that the average person couldn't handle. There were no instructions with the tool, which led to some frustration at first. First, changing out the mandrels is not entirely intuitive. For those struggling with this, make sure you pop off the circular dial in the middle. I nearly took apart the whole tool trying to change the mandrel. Second, it would have been good if there was some guidance on how far to screw the rivnut onto the mandrel in order to install properly. I tried screwing it on the entire way, but the handles are too wide apart - good luck getting them to close. Like another reviewer said, if you screw it on so that a little bit of the mandrel is sticking out past the rivnut, that should allow a clean install. Also, the case isn't very good. Parts don't fit in their spots very well, and move around once closed. Not a huge deal though, especially for the price. I installed about 10 of these into carbon fiber without damaging it. It would get a full 5 stars if it had come with instructions.

Great tool - Even Better Company
Although supplied with no instructions on its use (youtube solves that) this tool does the job. What is truly amazing though, is the company behind it. I had used the default size fitted (M10 I think) and it worked wonderfully, saving my bacon on a car trunk lift attachment point. Recently, however, I tried the M5 setup (back to youtube to learn how to change) The M5 puller rode thread was not cut correctly and the insert would not screw on. On the advice of another reviewer, I emailed Astrotools and they shipped a replacement without any fuss at all. Customer service the way is should be. Buy with confidence.

Not just a great tool, but an awesome company behind it.
This is an amazing tool. If you work with cars in any way, it will quickly become one of your go-to methods for attaching components directly to sheet metal. Nothing is more professional. I have used it for speaker adapter rings, crossovers, amplifiers, etc. Not only does it look professional, but it makes uninstalling / re installing components much easier. For instance, if someone takes their car in for warranty work and the service techs have to remove aftermarket components, they are much more likely to re-install them correctly when all they have to do is thread some screws back in, instead of dealing with a nut and bolt. As for Astro Pneumatic... I very foolishly attempted to use M4 rivets on the M5 mandrel (thinking the M4's were M5's).... I thought the mandrel had defective threads and called Astro Pneumatic asking them for a replacement mandrel. They sent it to me no questions asked, with a M5 rivet threaded on to prove that it worked. It was then I realized my dumb mistake, but at least Astro Pneumatic gained a life long customer.. Excellent company with ideal customer support and awesome products. I feel bad for wasting their time so I hope they see this review as a token of my gratitude.

Works well for some sizes
Worked great for M6 rivnuts, though it can take a little while to unscrew the tool after each nut so don’t expect to quickly put in a large number of rivnuts. I put in 50-60 M6 rivnuts without problem, but when I tried some M5s, the threads on the tool started breaking after the 5th or 6th rivnut and it fully jammed after about 10. I ended up having to rip the nut and tool together out of the workpiece and use vice grips and extreme coercion to get the rivnut off the tool so I could switch back to M6. From reading other reviews, sounds like the quality control is a little spotty so you could have a great experience or something could break quickly on you. I haven’t contacted the company yet to see about a replacement M5 bit.

My Favorite Rivet Nut Setter!
I own (at least four) different styles of rivet nut setters for setting various size ranges of rivet nuts (and similar products) in metric and imperial. I have to say that overall, this is my favorite product of them by far and it was also one of the least expensive. If you want to set M5, M6 or M8 (and, I would presume M10 and M12, but I do not use anything above M8) rivet nuts, including the ones made of stainless steel, this tool is for you. I am not a strong man (physically) by any means, yet I have absolutely no problem operating this device by myself. It was also the easiest of all my models to figure out proper operation. Unlike hand-plier style setters designed for smaller rivet nuts, there is no dial to adjust to control torque -- just roll the nut on and make sure just a bit of the mandrel comes out the end and that the nut is flush -- and you have it about correct. Not had any problems with this. Wish smaller ones were this easy to install stainless rivnuts with!

Excellent Tool If You Use Proper Technique...
It does what it is supposed to do, and comes with a nice case. I used it to set the two 8mm rivnuts to install running boards on a Honda Pilot, and it worked well. The one thing i do suggest, that I luckily read in reviews on here first, is to NOT fully thread the rivnut onto the tool, otherwise the handles do spread too far apart to get leverage. Once the Rivnut is initially set, it may not be tight enough - screw the tool into it a few more turns (the handles will open out again) and pull them together a second time. This should set the nut solid and not allow it to spin when trying to screw a bolt into it. Follow those steps, and it is an excellent tool.

Good, reliable, and simple tool. Hightly reccomend!
Just finished installing over 110 M8 and M10 Steel Rivet nuts using this tool and have not yet had a single problem. There are no instructions however it’s very easy to figure out how to change out the mandrels. As other reviews mentioned, I would not try to use this tool with M12 steel rivet nuts; it may work if they were aluminum however it was already hard to squeeze the M10 steel so M12 would be next to impossible.
