Really works! (for me, anyways)
I started experiencing arthritis in my hands but wanted to avoid prescription meds. I can't take ibuprofen or acetaminophen, because I they are anti-coagulants, which tend to be a problem for me (alarming nose bleeds). I was already regularly supplementing a lot of the suggested (by various medical organizations) solutions--curcumin, omega-3s, glucosamine. So I picked this as a solution I wasn't already trying. The bottle says 1/day, but I take 3/day, as that was what the NCBI article said was recommended. I have since tried lowering the dose, but I typically notice the pain coming back within a few days. WebMD says it's safe for 28 days, but that's because it hasn't been clinically tested for longer than that. I've been taking 1200 mg/day for a lot longer than that and haven't noticed any worrisome side effects.Full disclosure: I'm generally impatient, so at the same time as I started the PEA, I started MSM, also recommended for arthritis. I stir 1/2 tsp (recommended dose) into water and guzzle it every day. As with the PEA, when I try going off of it, the pain comes back. So these two things together work for me.

It does help some types of pain
I was born with brain and spinal malformations that went misdiagnosed until I was 30 years old. I have a Chiari malformation, a huge arachnoid cyst in the back of my head, spinal stenosis, bulging discs in neck, mid and lower spine, adult onset scoliosis, osteoporosis, reflex sympathetic nerve dystrophy( affecting my left foot and leg after surgery to stabilize my ankle with screws… look that up.. if you have any spinal issues because you are more at risk even though it’s fairly rare but so debilitating that it is sometimes termed “ suicide disease”). I have had bone in the back of my head removed to relieve pressure. I cannot have surgery for scoliosis since I have osteoporosis and my spine is too porous to support the hardware used. My scoliosis is not sideways curvature but outward curvature which gives me a “hump” on the left side of my upper back. I used a traction table at home for years to alleviate some of that pain but since I now have rds/crps sympathetic nerve damage, I am unable to use my traction since you practically hang upside down by your feet to separate the vertebrae and relieve bulging discs and help with scoliosis. I have been going to a pain clinic for many years. I was diagnosed with celiac disease last year with significant damage to my small intestines. So I don’t absorb my medications and many vitamin supplements as well especially if they are timed released. After some research I found some articles about PEA. It is not timed release. After a few weeks of taking it with my regular meds, I could tell a difference. It’s not huge for me but it’s enough to take the edge off. That’s enough to get me through a bad day. So I imagine it could be very helpful for others with a little lesser pain issues. Definitely recommend it. You’ll know in a week or 2 if it’s going to work for you. If you are struggling with pain please give it a try.

Cost Effective Brand of Palmitoylethanolomide (PEA)
Palmitoylethanolomide is one of two supplements that are abbreviated as PEA. (Make sure you're purchasing the right one.) It is an organic compound from fatty acid that was discovered in 1957. Many people take it to counteract physiological stress and pain. While some may notice its effect in days, others must take it for 4 - 6 weeks to notice a difference. Based on other reviews, some users did not notice a difference. Possibly, they did not take it long enough and/or did not take the right dosage for them. Many clinical studies reference a loading dose of 1200 mg. for one month, followed by a daily dose of 600 mg. as long as it is needed. This particular brand is so inexpensive (compared to others) that I wanted to try it. Based on a couple days' trial, I can report that it works well. However, I prefer a slightly lower dose per capsule (300 mg. vs. 400 mg.) and may return to a different brand. I will continue my trial and see if my body adjusts to the higher per-capsule dose.

Huge Size Pill!
Having a hard time swallowing the horse pills. Largest pills I've ever had to take. Why not have smaller ones and just take two?

Give it a chance to work
My SIL has a holistic health business and I respect his knowledge. He and his identical twin brother personally suffered from chronic back pain. He told me they both took PEA and after three weeks had a noticeable and definite relief. My back was so stiff and painful that I could hardly sleep. Maybe it was the power of suggestion, I don't know, I don't care, but around week three of taking PEA, I woke up without the stiffness and pain and have been able to function well since.
