EZdrummer Line Collection

EZDrummer is one of the best and most user-friendly virtual acoustic drum programs for an amazing price. For a musician needing an easy to use but powerful tool for creating naturally sounding drum tracks quickly, you can't go wrong with Toontrack's entry level software. There is a fair amount of content right out of the box, although the included Cocktail kit isn't very impressive. The only gripe might be that the samples are compressed and only 16-bit when 24-bit samples are now the norm. In use, however, you'd be hard-pressed to hear any substantial difference. It may impact your mix if you use 24-bit audio throughout your mix though, but most audio programs do a good job upsampling to 24-bit so make sure that everything is configured correctly.However, the expansion packs are a mixed bag. Some of the new kits don't sound all that different, and although they offer lots of content, one might wonder how many snares and cymbals you really need. The MIDI grooves that are also included offer extra value and demonstrate what each new kit is capable of but in the end having all of these expansions is in my opinion overkill. Considering the unbeatable price for this set though, it's hard to find any fault with it.One last remark: the software forces you to install all data (including expansion packs) to your operating system disk. Since each library takes up to 1 GB of storage space, this may create a problem if you have limited space available on that disk, eg. when you use an SSD. I've tried using an alias with Mac OSX but that didn't work either. I hope that it will be fixed in an update.
