Review: for acrylic tanks, remove motor then mount and reattach it! - This is definitely a nice upgrqde from the older penguin 350. Love the options for filter media. It is definitely whisper quiet and moves a lot of water, the only thing i noticed is that the bio wheels at least on the 375 model have a hard time spinning but it doesnt bother me because I use the fillable plastic media trays and i added some ceramic pre filter rings into the media basket in the center for more bacteria growth as well as ceramic rings to the fillable plastic trays i bought from my last filter. Fitting it into an acrylic tank isnt too easy cuz you have remove the motor to sit the unit in place then attatch the motor again. Overall fairly easy. The sponge at the intake i bought from aquarium co op i found it to be more coarse and it catches larger debris just fine. I also found the adjustment for water flow a big plus. Overall i am satisfied with this new version and highly suggest it. The options for the media you can place in here are large and one can easily customize this to suit whatever needs your fish may have. Now the only sound I really hear is from the air pump lol if i have any issues with this unit in the future i will update, i have had marineland filters for over 6 years and never had a problem. It uses the same size filter cartridges, and media holders as the Penguin 350, so those got swapped over without an issue. However, it does have different sized bio wheels so the wheels from the 350 won't work. I thought it was just a spoke length difference, so I trim the tips back some on the 350 bio wheel spokes, but there's a slightly larger diameter to the 350 wheels, so they didn't get the clearance needed to spin. No biggie, it's an established tank. As far as upgrades, I'll start at the top. 1. One-piece hinged lid that closes with a light snap. Thank you, Marineland! 2. Filter media area located inside at the bottom of the center where the intake hooks in. There's a basket that can hold a myriad of choices in there, but a nice option will be the forthcoming micron filter from Marineland. 3. Flow rate adjustment. Yes, you can variably decrease/increase the gph cycled by a simple twist of a knob. The included instructions state that it can be cranked down to 37gph. 4. Pump is an easily accessible/separate but attached sub system, submerged, self-priming and quiet. Noticeable difference from the 350. 5. Adjustable length inlet siphon tube that has a top section that can be used (open) for surface/mid level skimming (depending upon your water level) or closed, and an inlet screen basket with good surface area that can be opened to place media inside of it as well.
