To the water shut off valve or to the water fridge line** A: The flow is from the water source, the shut off valve under your sink or in the water line somewhere to the filter. So the "flow" marking with an arrow on the filter points toward your fridge. **Q: how long in months or years will this filter be effective?** A: 2500 gallons is what is go with. Ebery 6 months may be fine if you use the icemaker a lot. But if not go by gallon count. **Q: this only comes with 7' of line & my refrigerator is 12' away from my sink line do they offer a longer line?** A: Longer lines can be purchased separately. **Q: will this filter remove the salt taste from a water softener ?** A: I believe the salt taste in water softeners is from salt being dissolved in the water. I also believe that filters remove particles from water, not chemicals dissolved in the water. So, I don't believe that this filter will remove the salt taste from water softeners. This is a great water filter. It filters out the taste of chlorine perfectly, so my ice tastes like nothing to go along with my filtered water.In my last house, the filter had lasted at least 18 months and although I live alone, I use a lot of ice.The kit includes all the plumbing parts you need to hook it up to a standard ice maker. I did have to provide 2 drywall anchors and 2 screws of my own, but not big deal. One of the braided steel hoses is about 7' long so it is enough to pull your unit well away from the wall when needed.Installation instructions are a little sparse, but adequate and the install is straight forward. If you have ever done any basic household pluming like a kitchen faucet, lavatory faucet, etc. you shouldn't have any problems figuring it out.I've bought 2 and I'd but another in the future. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product *by A***R on July 13, 2024* This clip holds the water filter firmly in place. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good kit subpar filter *by A***R on April 26, 2020* I ordered this primarily for the kit so I could install an inline filter. The filter system stopped working inside my refrigerator so I bought this kit so I could still filter the water and ice coming out of my refrigerator without having to replace my fridge. I found the kit to be outstanding and easy to setup. However, the filter the kit comes with this kit is small / subpar and I quickly replaced it. I ended up replacing the filter with the "EcoPure EPINL30 5 Year in-Line Refrigerator Filter" and the water and ice coming out of my fridge tastes great now.
