First impression was good - fun
I got this book as a present from a friend of mine when I first bought my first DSLR camera. First impression was good - fun, colourful, plenty of picture examples but after reading it I was still struggling to grasp the basics of technology side of my camera. Only after discovering another source of literature in a very similar style I understood that Lorna Yabsley's book was lacking structure and missed importance of covering the foundation of exposure triangle. Good book but personally, I did not benefit from it.

A fun learning book
I purchased this book for a young friend of mine who is starting out on the photographic route, and she is delighted with it. Its a fun book, well written and is a relaxing book which can be picked up and read from any section within the book, although for someone not totally familiar with their camera is probably a good idea to start at the beginning. It makes a great book as a present or if you want to check out just how much you really know. It is written in a gentle relaxed fun way. Delivery was fast and packing excellent.

An excellent introduction to Photography.
Being a Licentiate member of the Royal Photographic Society, I purchased this book for my grand-daughter who intends to study photography as part of her A level options. The book seems to me to provide a well rounded approach to the subject in a clear, simple way. Technical issues in some books in relation to photography appear as just "gobbledegook", but this book deals with them well. As a "starter" book, it takes some beating.!!

Okay Guide for Intermediates
3.5The slightly condescending tone annoyed me but there's some good tips to be found if you can get passed that. There's a bit of assumed knowledge and the technical aspects are only covered lightly (because "Eww, technology!", right?) so I wouldn't recommend this book for complete beginners. It's better suited to confident beginner-intermediate photographers who have a basic grasp of their camera's functions but want to get more out of manual mode and develop their own style. It's an easy read and had some useful tips in it, particularly regarding composition and the different types of photography but it's pretty light on technical and post-production info.

Busy girl loves this book
I'm really liking this book - I have made several attempted forays into manual photography but always slink back to Auto because it yielded better results! This book is instantly accessible and explains everything about photography in basic terms without being patronising in any way, and I am now having much more success on Manual settings. I also love the 'chic geek nerdy Nuggets'! Thank you, Lorna!

A brilliant photography book
I have quite a lot of books and had my eye on this one for a while. I took it out from my library first of all and knew straight away it would earn a place on my bookshelf. It is just a different take on photography and aimed at women who want technical but not too much technical info.
