Surviving Doomsday: A Guide for Surviving an Urban Disaster

This is the next best book to have handy besides you bible or whatever you worship! Many friends including my own mother was affected by hurricane Sandy and a few lost their homes completely. Granted no one can fight with the forces of Mother Nature but we can do our best to survive the best way we can by using this book as a tool..a guide. I recommend to everyone...those who have endured a storm as well as those who have not. Many of us move from state to state or even out of the country and we never know what we can expect at our final destination, so those who go must get this book and use it as a survival guide to the unexpected.

The introduction alone is enough to make you sit up and think. A must read by any young adult who has grown up in the world of electronic gizmos. I only brushed over the section on guns, here in Australia the way of life is a lot different I guess. Was very interested in the section on water sanitation and the section on food storage was written in a very common sense way. I would like to see further reading though on human nature during times of crisis, reading people I think would be very useful.Steve :)

I am also a resident of Miami,FL and lived through Hurricane Andrew. I was vey impressed with the amount of research and the knowledge that Mr Duarte has amassed and shared with us in his book. I recommend this book to everyone who has a family to care for, especially those who have woken up to the fact that it may not always be possible to pick up the phone and call for help. This book is a great primer for those on the path towards self reliance. Congratulations on a great book Mr. Duarte.

I'm new to the whole preparedness movement and as such I'm always seeking new ideas. This book contained a lot of information. Some of it is more useful than others but that will vary from person to person. I recommend getting this and reviewing the information contained therein.

I only read half of this book and I must say I'm hooked. This book gives you a reality check straight from the start. You CANNOT depend on anyone to be your super hero but yourself. I can relate to the authors children, I lived in Florida during Hurricane Andrew and as a child I don't remember much but how scared I was when I saw my neighborhood in pieces. Now as an adult with a child of my own, I definitely know more on how to prepare my family for WCS.

The lists feel overwhelming, but the author's suggestion to get a little at a time is one I'm taking to heart. There's good info here, good examples, and I'm glad I bought this book. Zombie apocalypse, here I come.

Pretty good read. Lots of good information. Some very good lists. If you are a seasoned prepper it may be a lot of repeat info, but if you are looking for good, solid information i would recommend this book.

Kind of dry and a challenge to follow. The content is good and it has good info. Might buy it again if needed. May be better suited for initial info or a reader who is just starting out in the preparedness world.

As an emergency preparedness professional I am always on the lookout for new ideas and approaches. This book is an excellent primer on how to prepare yourself, your home and family for dealing with an unexpected disaster in an urban setting. The book is packed full of great tips and lists. This author doesn't get sucked into any of the various "Prepper" debates around fire arms and gear but delivers practical advice and strategies. Nor does he get into sermons on doomsday scenarios. I would recommend this to anyone who is starting a preparedness plan or is looking for confirmation that their preparedness plans are on track. This is a great resource overall.
