Tutor in a Book's Geometry

This Book Cost Me A Geometry Tutoring Job. . .
Love, love, love this book.As a private tutor, I had been searching for a good supplemental resource book for Geometry, and I stumbled upon this one. I had a student who was struggling with Geometry, lost, overwhelmed and intimidated by the subject, and math phobic. We worked together for several weeks, and made some good progress, but she was still struggling. Then this book arrived. At first she panicked a little, because this book didn't look like her class text book, with its handwritten notes and easy, less formal language. But then she started working with it in between our tutoring sessions, and she "got" it. (As a teacher, those are the moments you live for). Her stress level and math anxiety went WAY down, she became confident and even comfortable with the subject. After her midterms I waited to hear from her to schedule our next session. And waited. . .and waited. . . I finally spoke with her father, who happily reported how well she was doing, and how enthusiastic she was about this book. A few months later, I got the call every tutor loves - an excited (former) student reporting that they got an A in the class, confidence and enthusiasm practically bursting from her. Ah well, thanks to this book, I lost a $50 per hour tutoring job. . . but for the very best of reasons:)This book can initially be a little intimidating, because its big, thick, crammed with information, and might not look exactly like the math texts you've been used to. But once you get into it, you will fall in love with it. Its well-organized by topic, and its beyond thorough in its discussion of each item. the margins are filled with hand-written notes and diagrams showing key ideas, shortcuts, common mistakes to avoid, and explanations. It can be used either as a primary text to progress through from beginning to end, or as a secondary, supplemental resource to be used just as a fill in to learn more about specific topics. Its presentation of proofs is especially well done.I wish this series was available in every subject I teach. . .

Very Useful and Easy to Understand
I have found this book to be very helpful when assisting my high school freshman in understanding a concept. The classroom book they received from school is of a theorectical nature and having this as a supplement to their learning has helped. We can spend a few minutes skimming over the material in this book and then further discuss the concept for understanding. The book is nicely laid out in sections and has followed the progression of material learned in class. It also seems to "sum up" concepts at the end of a section, so if you only have time to get a quick understanding or need to "brush up" again on a concept, it is easy to do. I am recommending this book to friends.

Very helpful combined with a Geometry textbook
As mentionned in another geometry textbook review, I have relearned geometry after a long (very long) absence, in order to tutor my grandson and get him through his high school course. The textbook ofttimes is a bit confusing; this book does a good job of providing other ways to look at and explain theorems and solving problems. My only criticisms are its index......it is extremely rudimentary.....and the book could have greater detail......but in the book (about 1-1.5 inches thick) there is a lot of math condensed into the pages...plane geometry, solid geometry and further.... It is a frequent "go to" book that I use when trying to learn and impart the theorems and concepts. It's well worth buying if you're tutoring someone.....but, it shouldn't be the only book you utilize....it works well in combination with a detailed high school or college text.It would be nice if the subject (plane geometry) could be presented in standardized format....using two different books (this and a text) requires the liberal use of the index to find and teach the concepts within each book....each author follows a different order of teaching geometry.

Makes learning Geometry fun!
Based on previous review, I bought this book for my son for his freshman year and wow! I worked with him with book and it was so much fun for both of us. It's structured very well and the concepts are very well explained with examples. Few things that I did not learn well during my high school, I learned myself.Highly recommend it.

Just what I wanted
Excellent tool to tutor/teach my son. I speak as someone who loved math in school, excelled in it, and use it now in my career. My son, on the other hand, sees math as a chore. He dislikes his teacher, and neither of us like the textbook (Springboard) he uses in school. Both of us much prefer this book. It is well laid out, and a good value. It has the right number of problems so that you can evaluate whether you have learned the material. If you need more problems, you can look for them elsewhere. This keeps the book to a manageable length, not overwhelming. Very happy with my purchase.

...Good resource - text layout cluttered and could in need of a face lift
I am a Sped teacher who specializes in math. This is an good text. It does a solid job covering the material.I took off 2 stars because the page layout is cluttered and is in need of a professional face lift from a professional who specializes in textbook layout. This would especially be helpful for struggling learners.

What an excellent find!
Tutor In A Book's Geometry is wonderful supplemental material for students' and tutors to follow along. The book is really easy to understand and contains alot of useful material. If math is just not your thing or for tutors who just need to present information in a different way, this is the book for you. I currently tutor math from elementary to Geometry and I use this book all the time. In addition to receiving the book, you will receive two pages of back-to-back Geometry formulas. For students' who are not receiving the instruction they need from their teacher or for tutors who are looking for a little more than the students' textbook, this is a wonderful find. In addition, the book was extremely inexpensive.
