Good fun for both your funny bone and your brain!
Peter Schickele's compositions and recordings are often considered to be novelty recordings, but the quality of his compositions and arrangements is very good. Combine his musical skills with a gift for satire and whimsy, and you have a thoroughly entertaining recording which can be appreciated by those looking for good slapstick, as well as those who have a good appreciation for classical period music and literature.Oedipus Tex is a wonderful example in which Schickele wreaks havoc on both JS Bach and Sophocles. Turning the oratorio style into a romp in the American west, he brings shades of Copeland and Grofe into the classical stylings of 18th Century musical forms. While no knowledge of Oedipus Rex is necessary, a prior reading (even if it was back in junior high school!) only adds to the enjoyment. This is good fun for both your funny bone and your brain!

Peters Law license
This is a very funny album where Peter Schekele tries to get his law license back using cases that were brought before PDQ Bach most notably the case of Oedipus Tex but also humor rap and the use of old songs such as Happy Birthday. As I said its very funny. You should get it.

One of the great Classics!
Oedipus Tex & Other Choral Calamities is one of the must haves from PDQ Bach. This album has some of his best stuff on it including the title tracks and one of the funniest songs he has composed "classical rap" this is well worth one's time to check out.

best "western" opera ever!
The mini-miester of Wien-on Riem has struck again! P.D.Q.(or prpfessor Shickele,if you like) has once again commited musical homicide. This is one of the best pieces ever. The opening nunber "OEDIPUS TEX" is hilarious, and follows the plotline of the origanal story almost excactly, with a few twists thrown in for good measure. The piece"KNOCK,KNOCK is worth the price alone! All hail the genius of P.D.Q.!

Hilarious!
One of the funniest CD's I have ever owned! I know this sounds terribly snobbish, but unless you have an understanding of even some of the most basic classical music scores, then you won't get the jokes which are littered throughout this fantastic recording. The way it has been written is actually very clever and I enjoy listening to it time and time again. I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone, it's hilarious!!

Liebevolle Veralberung!
