It deserves a place on your bookshelf
Great story and art, set in the aftermath of the Empire's fall and Luke's rise to Jedi Master. While it's no longer a part of the Star Wars canon, it retains its impact, expanding the Star Wars universe and the relationships between Han Leia and Luke. Some may not like the art at first, but it has a hypnotic, dreamlike quality that means i'm still finding new details nearly 30 years after I first read it in comic form.It deserves a place on your bookshelf.

a joyful blast from the past.
I remember reading these comics (now a graphic novel) as a teenager, before the prequels, before the sequels, and feeling Star Ward brought back to life for me. It sometimes overreaches with it's ideas but this an epic and unmissable purchase.

Star wars dark empire (comic)
Not a bad short story. Good if you've read or reading the star wars novels - fills the gap between the Thrawn trilogy and Jedi academy. Art work could have been better.

A must have for fans
This Comic and its sequel were was only brought to my attention while looking at the Star Wars extended universe time-line in the front of one of my novels. This series follows the return of the emperor to the galaxy and the ensuing battles that follow. Focusing quite heavily on the Jedi/Sith mythology, but with plenty else going on, this series plays quite a large part in establishing how the imperial remnant and the rebels/new republic are formed. A great pair of graphic novels with good art style I feel that with the way the post film story crosses between novels and media platforms, its an essential part of a larger whole.

Dark Empire Rocks
This for me was what got me into comic books. I first collected the Dark Empire series when it was originally released back in 1991-1992. It blew me away than and it continues to do so today. To me this (and it's successors Dark Empire II and Empire's End) should have been the next true chapters in the Star Wars universe. From the Emperor's rebirth, Luke's decent into the dark side, Bob Fett's reappearance and Leia's emergence as a Jedi this book has it all (sorry if I've spoilt it for you). I love it and could read it over and over again.Plus as the added bonus it's illustrated by Cam Kennedy. Now I never pay attention of who pens or pencils comics, but Cam's work is so beautiful and unique that it gives the story a dark and gritty feel. If you love Star Wars I fail to see how you couldn't love this.
