Best value premium lump. Great temp control + long burn.
I just raised my rating to 5 after trying a few other “premium” charcoals. This is definitely the worst best for sizing (some really large chunks), price (less than comparable brands) and overall performance. Lights quickly without all the sparks, burns longer, and you end up with more charcoal after damping the fire. I just ordered another large bag—hope it is as good as the previous.Chunks were a variety of sizes from baseball to 8”. Great temp control and long lasting. Smoke seemed light, so I added some apple chunks. Overall I’m very pleased with the product, and highly recommend

Really, really hot fire!
I ordered this because they burn so slowly that I could just cut off the air supply and have some coal left. And it worked perfectly. There are a lot of small pieces in the bag.. They burn off almost immediately and turn into ash. However, there are so many large pieces that once the small pieces burn, they are just beginning and they are good for a couple of more fires. I was going to give this 4 stars because of the small pieces, but I think they did it on purpose so that the fires last longer. The fires I get are incredibly hot. Before getting this coal, I really didn't understand why the damping features were a feature. I needed all the coals I got and other lump coals didn't need it either. However, these pieces burn hot and slow, so you do need to damp the fire down so that it doesn't stay at 1000 degrees. You won't be disappointed if you order this coal..

Everything you want lump charcoal to be.
Great flavor, incredible heat, and it works great on long slow smokes as well. With Harder Charcoal I have been able to use less fuel than with Kingsford, and the flavor is amazing. This is basically Jealous Devil at a lower price point. The bag arrived on time, and it worked great. Started well in the chimney starter, but also lasted much longer than Royal Oak. Highly recommend Harder Charcoal. This could be your secret BBQ weapon.

Does what charcoal does burn
It did not have huge piece. They were not small either. Roasted some pepper and smoked some pork with it. Was able to do the slow heat for the pork and was able to get it really hot for the peppers. Worked for me.

This is excellent charcoal! I got lucky, it’s real lump charcoal at a great price!

A very good alternative for Fogo or Jealous Devil
When I purchased this charcoal, for some reason Fogo and JD charcoal was outrageously priced, so I decided to give this charcoal a try in my Big Green Egg. It has very large pieces like you get with Fogo and doesn't have a lot of really small pieces like you get with other charcoal. I did find a rock in it, but only 1. Burns hot and imparts a nice flavor to the food.

You won't regret it
I hardly ever leave reviews. In the pic is about four pounds. I used half of that in testing in a Weber Kettle and it ran almost 12 hours. Solid, rock hard, consistent, and heavy. It is a little hard to light even with a chimney so keep that in mind. I used a dose of dried white oak to get a good flame underneath and boom. Don't be off-put by the raw char smell when it's first lighting, once it's burning... heaven. Also, when it's burning, it's burning, so mind your temps. Hard to get down once it's ablaze.

Wouldn't call it XL, easily Large.
It's just average size chunks. I had to fish around for some large chucks for a long smoke. But, its not bad. It doesn't pop and crackle sparks all over the place like some brands do.Update 11/20/21:I needed to give this 5 stars. The second bag I purchased had larger chunks than the first bag and little to no trash or rocks. Very little ash as well. I smoked a butt at 215 for 21 hours with this stuff, and the attached picture shows that I had almost a full basket left over. This will be my go to lump unless something better comes along. Next time around, I'll probably cook at a little higher temp to speed up the cook which may yield less lump after the cook, but I will say, I'm totally impressed and satisfied on how this lump performed. Give it a try. It's cheaper than other brands too.
