Great disc brakes.
These brakes are awesome. I had tektro mechanical disc brakes, and these as significantly better. Almost as good as hydraulic disc brakes, but not quite. Easy to install and setup. The instructions are a little confusing, but once you do it (or watch their setup videos on youtube) you realize it's pretty simple. I've ridden on them for over a year on a Fuji Tread, doing mostly road riding and some trails and I can vouch for them. You can break later and harder in the turns, and they are responsive. They "do" heat up after long down hills, but no loss of control. I think the overall feel of the breaks also has a lot to do with the pads - I changed the original pads that came with them, and they do feel different. So, if you have mechanical brakes you're not happy with, these do a great job. If you have good mechanical disc brakes, you might want to test these somewhere first before you buy.

Very satisfied so far, excellent upgrade though pricey.
Originally I bought these because I'm riding an ebike and i have to deal with using the cut-off feature on the original equipment levers which were the only thing on the bike of decent quality. However, I find them to be great alternatives to full hydronics and I'm thinking they might even be more reliable since the entire fluid system is self contained. While they are not as smooth and silky as full hydros, I think they are an excellent value probably less trouble than full hydros. They are most certainly a safer, better braking system than the mechanical xoom junk disk brakes that came with the bike and well worth the investment. Especially with the mechanicals requiring frequent adjustments which is nonsense. Never had to do that with the old horseshoe brakes. Also, because I'm using my old levers, I'm able to buy a unit for the front only and the bike doesn't like patchwork. So that saves some good cash. I'm hard on the fronts so we'll see after a 1000 or so miles if they stand the test and then I'll consider doing the rears. After about 200 miles, I'm very satisfied even though they are pricey.

Great product. Replaces the stock brake (BB-5)
Put on Salsa Vaya (2012), fairly tight fit, but works. Great product. Replaces the stock brake (BB-5), which was loud, fussy to adjust and had a pulsed feeling when applied with force. HyRd is completely silent, straight forward set up. On first ride did not notice any difference compared to BB-5 (still in front) other than it was completely silent. Switched housing to compressionless and it is even better. I never noticed any 'squishiness', but with the compressionless housing there is still 1cm between the brake lever and bars when the pads are FULLY engaged. Seems like a great design idea- especially for a fat guy on a loaded touring bike!

Good upgrade from normal mechanical brake
I used this on my 2014 disc trucker to replace the front bb7. I've had issues with the bb7 and caliper alignment which would cause a lot of brake shuddering. The hy/rd has amazing modulation and is relatively quiet (squeaks a little at very low rpm). The modulation is great, day and night difference from the bb7 though, I do have Yokozuna compression-less cables which have also helped. I've put about 300-400 miles on the brake and I often haul a trailer with about 60lbs total weight and have had no issues or needed to do any pad adjustments, this especially makes the purchase worth it. I didn't have any of the installation or throw issues that other users are talking about, took 5 minutes to get off and running.

Confidence inspiring brakes for Campagnolo Ergo levers.
These are much nicer than the already nice TRP Spyre brakes which I replied with these. The Hy/Rd have much more power. I have been running these brakes with my Campagnolo Ergo levers and they brake nicely. The difference is that the Spyres were fine for CX race courses but for long descents on fire roads or long twisty single track, these are confidence inspiring.

These brakes are great and a worthwhile upgrade to your standard mechanical disk setup. Improved brake modulation and performance. Be sure to use high quality brake cables to reduce cable stretch.

and if you don't read the service bulletin online it's easy to potentially damage them
Initial adjustment is a real pain on these, and if you don't read the service bulletin online it's easy to potentially damage them. The cable angle is steep for most frames, and required a more severe curve in the cable housing than I like. Don't work great with campy, but better than mechanical alternatives I'd tried.

Huge improvement over pure mechanical brakes.
Singularly the best upgrade I've done to my cheap ass CX bike. These not only outbrake, but provide better feedback, and better response than the BB5s I had before. They grab, and can stop my clydesdale ass on a 20% incline without overheating. Brilliant, to say the least.Install was about 20 minutes all told. Swapped out the bracket, the spacer, and then left them loose while I reinstalled the wheel. Aligned everything, spent 5 minutes tightening things down, then rode (slowly) to shake down the new kit. Huge improvement over the mechanical brakes without having to change out all the lines and change out shifters. The kit as ordered has new rotors included. They're not mentioned in the description.
