## Description

This groundbreaking classic is now available in a special anniversary edition with bonus content. Winner of the Newbery Medal as well as the National Book Award, HOLES is a New York Times bestseller and one of the strongest-selling middle-grade books to ever hit shelves! Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes. It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment —and redemption. Special anniversary edition bonus content includes: A New Note From the Author!; "Ten Things You May Not Know About HOLES" by Louis Sachar; and more! .

Review: A really good book - Holes by Louis Sachar is a heartwarming, mysterious, and gripping story. Stanley Yelnats, who is the main character, has a poor family and his dad tries to recycle old shoes to make a fortune. The story begins with Stanley "stealing" a famous sport player's shoes. He goes to court and gets two choices. Jail or Camp Green lake. Stanley chooses camp Green Lake. At the camp he had to dig 5 feet holes. For me, the most powerful part of the story was when Stanley makes a friend, Zero, he makes a deal with him. Zero was the fastest digger at Camp Green Lake, but Zero never learned how to read. The deal that Stanley made with Zero was if Zero digs part of his hole Stanley had to dig, Stanley would teach Zero how to read. I thought this was the most powerful part of the book because this is the start of their relationship and it gets better throughout the story. The theme of the story, which is friends stay together, relates to us. For example when Zero got sick Stanley took Zero up a mountain and fed him onions. This book teaches us to never leave a friend behind. I would strongly recommend Holes to third graders and up who like mystery, and adventure stories.
Review: A Smart, Fun Read! Perfect Gift for Young Readers! - I bought Holes by Louis Sachar for my neighbor’s son, who absolutely loves to read, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. He was hooked from the very first chapter! The story of Stanley Yelnats and the mysterious Camp Green Lake is clever, funny, and full of twists that keep young readers excited to turn the page. Louis Sachar does an amazing job blending adventure with deeper themes like friendship, fairness, and courage. Even though it’s written for kids, it’s the kind of book that sticks with you long after finishing it. The short chapters, easy writing style, and engaging plot make it super accessible, especially for kids who enjoy books with mystery and humor. If you’re looking for a great gift for a child who loves reading, or one you want to encourage to read more. Holes is a fantastic pick. My neighbor’s son devoured it, and now he wants to read more books by the same author!
